Enjoy the ultimate foodie weekend (without leaving town)

Hotel Realm’s Foodie Staycation is a chance to escape the everyday without leaving Canberra—for less than $300, you can have a night away from home and two amazing food experiences.

Mr HerCanberra and I are foodies. Our holidays revolve around dining at the restaurants we’ve meticulously researched and booked, and we remember cities by what we ate there.

But sometimes, time and budget just don’t allow you to get away—even when you desperately need a break from the everyday. Which is why Hotel Realm’s Foodie Staycation is ticking all our boxes.

Essentially, it’s a chance to escape the everyday without leaving Canberra. For less than $300, you can have a night away from home, indulge in two delicious food experiences, and forget about that pile of laundry for a little while.

First, let’s talk your room—the package includes overnight accommodation with an upgrade to a Realm Suite. We’re talking a luxurious and spacious room complete with Plush custom-made king-size bed and goose down bed topper, APPELLES Apothecary luxury bathroom amenities, two Samsung Smart TVs and Foxtel, complimentary WiFi, Nespresso machine and more. Hey, there’s even a washing machine and dryer if you’re tempted to bring that pile of laundry with you. As if.

Then there’s the food, where you need to decide between two one-hat restaurants for dinner. Tough choice. Will you head to modern Japanese dining hall, LiloTang, or to Chairman & Yip—one of Canberra’s longest standing and most highly regarded Asian fine-diners? You can’t go wrong with either, to be honest. Check out the Food Staycation menus on offer here.

At breakfast the next day you’ll also need to make choices—not where, but what, to eat. Buvette Bistro’s buffet breakfast is not your typical hotel spread. Freshly-made pastries, hot and cold dishes—all with a little French je ne sais quoi.

You’ll also enjoy complimentary parking and a late check-out of 12 noon, plus access to Evo Health Club or Hale Gym if you’re keen to start your day with a morning workout. All this for just $299 twin share.

So, if you’ve got kids, do your damndest to persuade your sitter to stay overnight, bribe the in-laws or line up a ‘kid swap’ with friends on alternate weekends, and book one. If it’s just the two of you, well—as they say—a change is as good as a holiday.

And let’s face it, you wouldn’t get a whole lot of change from $300 if you were to take a taxi from Gungahlin to the city and back, plus dinner and breakfast for two. The Foodie Staycation is a great way to get a mini break without breaking the bank.
