Canberra Wine Week is back!

You had me at Merlot.
Have you been feeling a little Bord-eaux? Looking for a Riesling to go wine tasting? Well, you’re in luck, because Canberra Wine Week is set to pour out a bunch of events in April that celebrate the wine, food and natural beauty of our mouth-watering region. (OK, OK, I’m done.)
Canberra Wine Week is an annual initiative of the Canberra District Wine Industry Association and its members. This year, Canberrans can experience local wines in a whole new way, as the Wine Week program explores the theme of Expect the Unexpected. These unique events will showcase aspects of local winemaking that are new, unknown, or only revealed through exclusive behind the scenes access.

Even the grapes themselves are getting in on the action, with this year’s vintage being unexpectedly harvested at the busiest time of the year for local winemakers.
“Vintage 2019 has been fast and furious in the Canberra region,” explains Alex McKay of Collector Wines. “White and red grapes have been ripening practically together, making for an unusually intense vintage period.”

The Canberra Wine Week program spans more than 40 events at 25 of your favourite local vineyards and restaurants, including meet the maker encounters, special lunches and dinners, music performances, art classes at Clonakilla, Fourwinds Vineyard, Pankhurst Wines, Shaw Wines, Yarrh Wines, Lake George Winery and more.
The festivities will kick off on 30 March with a fun wine tasting in the New Acton courtyard. The Canberra District Wine Dinner at the award-winning Aubergine Restaurant on 9 April will definitely be a highlight, as guests enjoy a selection of top local wines perfectly matched with six courses created by chef Ben Willis and his team. Plus, Hot Dub Time Machine is back for the Wine Machine festival at Lake George Winery on 13 April.

Other foodie experiences on offer include dream-team wine matching dinners from Gundog Estate Wines and Grazing at Gundaroo, and Lake George Winery and Pialligo Estate. There’ll also be a laid-back BBQ accompanied by gorgeous reds at Norton Road Wines, cheesemaking at Contentious Character and the chance to put your nose to the test at Shaw Wines with Le Nez du Vin, an introduction to the aromas of wine.

If getting your feet dirty is more your style, head to Murrumbateman Winery for some real live grape stomping. For the creative types, there’s wine and Pilates at Enotria Wines, watercolour painting at Four Winds Vineyard and Harvest Festival scarecrow-making at Yarrh Wines.
