Homegrown talent The Beanies debut on ABC Kids

Do your little ones love ABC Kids? Now they can watch homegrown The Beanies talent live and on ABC iView.
It’s been a rough couple of years for live entertainment and Sydney-based kids band The Beanies—comprising of Canberrans Mim Rizvi and Laura Dawson and Newcastrian Michael Yore—were no different.
After losing almost $50,000 worth of gigs at the start of the 2021 lockdown, the seasoned performers weren’t sure when they’d perform live again. But they weren’t about to slow down. Instead, the spent lockdown writing, performing, filming, editing and animating eight video clips that have been picked up by ABC Kids, marking a huge milestone for the trio.
Focusing on imaginative play and featuring The Beanies signature “silly songs and wacky dance moves”, as of 1 March 2022 The Beanies have become part of ABC Kids regular programming, which Mim says is an encouraging step towards sharing the joys of unstructured play with audiences.
“With all the toys, movies and video games available today, playing in your imagination has become a real challenge,” explains Mim. “The Beanies are every child’s best friend, leading by example in imaginative play.”
The Beanies emphasis on imagination stems from their focus on the future, with the team noting that, according to the World Economic Forum, 65% of children entering primary school today will end up working in jobs that do not currently exist.
“So, the question for anyone working with kids is; how do we best prepare young Australians for an undiscovered future?” asks Laura. “The Beanies believe that by encouraging listening with creative, adaptable thinking, children will be better equipped for unimaginable possibilities.”
