Six Easter weekend mini-breaks that aren’t the South Coast

Posted on

Oh April, how we love you! We are officially in the midst of Public Holiday Season™ and the Easter long weekend is looming.

It’s been quite an intense and heavy start to the year for many of us, so hitting the road might just be what the doctor ordered.

If you haven’t locked in any Easter plans, here’s a list of spots you might want to check out (that aren’t the south coast!).

Live the high life in the Hilltops Region

Stretching between Jugiong, Harden-Murrumburrah, Young and Boorowa, the Hilltops region is the slice of heaven just 90 minutes from Canberra that will be serving up the goods over Easter weekend.

Gorgeous foodie spots exist across the region, with some stunning accommodation for you to check out—like The Sir George in Jugiong, which combines a modern pub experience with stunning hotel-suite style barns for guests to make themselves at home.

For more on the region, check out our guide.

Un-wine-d in the Canberra Wine Region

If you do want to keep it just that little bit more local? Wine not (sorry) spend the weekend in Canberra’s very own wine region.

With the rise of glamping (I mean, how fabulous) there are a number of cool places to kick back across the long weekend.

There’s The Nest in Gundaroo, Abode in Murrumbateman, Little George at Lake George Winery or Cubby and Co, which is nestled just above Mount Majura Vineyard. They sound like a slice of heaven to us.

We’ve even pulled together a guide for navigating the wine region, which you can view here.

Stress less in the Southern Highlands

More and more are recognising the gold stowed in those magic hills of the Southern Highlands—and if you’re (somehow) yet to check them out, Easter may just be your moment.

From Bowral to Moss Vale, to Bundanoon (and all that lies between), there are gorgeous cafés, homewares stores, and scenery in which to soak in the glory of autumn. The region boasts some stunning older homes and accommodation to stay in that might just be a calming balm to our hectic start to the year.

Check out this story for more inspo.

Breathe easy in Bungendore

You’ll recognise Bungendore from your adventures to Canberra’s second home, The South Coast, but if you’re in need of a chill place to spend your Easter weekend, this might just be the place.

From farmer’s markets to quirky small-town stores we love to browse in and some fresh spots to eat, it’s well worth a stay.

We pulled together 13 reasons to check out the ‘Dore earlier this year, which you can find here.

Feel like making a bit more of trek? Why don’t you make your way to Orange?

On top of the selection of divine accommodation options, there are oodles of wineries open and ready to entertain you across the weekend. And—as is the story with so many of these destinations—there is more shopping and browsing opportunities than you can poke a stick at!

Check out a wrap on some of our fave bits of Orange here.

Bliss out in Braidwood

She’s Bungendore’s older sister and stands as another gateway to the Coast—but why not park there this Easter?

Spend the weekend browsing Braidwood’s extensive collection of antique and vintage shops, café hopping, shopping and soaking up allll the relaxed vibes.

We’ve got a wrap of 20+ Braidwood treasures to explore, which you can find here.
