Brunello drinking in national wine list awards

If you value a superior wine list just as much as you value a menu, then you are going to want to get your skates on for a booking at Brunello.

Not only has it been judged to have the Best Wine List in the ACT at the prestigious Australia’s Wine List of the Year Award, but it also snared The Tony Hitchin Award for Best New List as well as the Best Listing of ACT Wines.

Brunello was singled out alongside Sydney’s Bennelong, for outstanding performance at the awards while Brisbane’s Cru Bar + Cellar was crowned Australia’s Wine List of the Year.

Brunello burst onto the local dining scene in December of last year as the city’s most wine-focussed fine dining restaurant which offers over 400 bottles as well as 50 premier wines by the glass, including Grange Hermitage.

Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards are in their 29th year, and took place on Monday evening at Sydney’s 12-Micron in Barangaroo following two years of virtual ceremonies.

The Awards judging panel was made up of 30 of some of the world’s most respected wine talent with 23 judges from Australia, and the balance from New Zealand, Germany, United States, France, Hong Kong, and Great Britain representing the international jury.

This year’s program saw a record number of entries, even compared to pre-COVID event years, a statistic that Chairman of Judges Peter Forrestal was a pleasing sign for the wider industry.

“We’ve seen the resilience of the hospitality industry in incredibly difficult times during the pandemic. Although many are still doing it tough, Australia’s Wine List of the Year in 2022 suggests that the industry is hitting back,” he said.

Kirsten Galliott, Editor-in-Chief of Major Awards Partner Qantas Magazine | Travel Insider said this year’s awards had been “a wonderful opportunity to turn the spotlight on Australia’s sommeliers and restaurateurs. It has been another challenging year for the hospitality industry, but I am so cheered by the pursuit of excellence, the attention to detail and the championing of the wine industry.”

The Winners by State and Territory were:

Best Wine List NSW Bennelong
Best Wine List QLD Bella Venezia
Best Wine List SA Fishbank
