EQ Bakehouse is now open in the Canberra Outlet Centre and we’ll take one of everything please

Get ready to shop and snack until you pop—EQ Bakehouse is now open in the Canberra Outlet Centre.

Sweet and savoury, naughty and nice—since 2015 EQ Bakehouse and Café in Deakin has been a favourite of Inner South locals, but now anyone wandering around Fyshwick’s Canberra Outlet Centre can treat themselves to freshly baked goods (including bread, pies, cakes, pastries, cakes, sandwiches and more) at a brand-new location.

And with locally blended coffee and a range of classic and artisan delights on the menu—hello frangipane pear tarts, loaded salad rolls and homemade cannoli—a shopping trip (or brunch date) has never sounded so good.

Owned and operated by Vim Soneri—who brought EQ in 2019 because he saw a great opportunity to grow his own Canberra-based brand—the new location is the perfect spot for a leisurely and comfortable dining experience to refuel between stores.

“Having our big main onsite bakery in Deakin means we can deliver freshly made goods to all our locations daily, ensuring we are giving our customers the freshest and best products at multiple premises around Canberra,” says Vim.

“The menu is an abbreviated version of what is available at EQ in Deakin, with the selections tailored to suit people who are more on the go.”

With options like choc orange pancakes, breakfast burritos, Mediterranean chicken souvlaki and rustic steak sandwiches (and more), Vim and the EQ Bakehouse team will be bringing healthy and comfort food dining-in options, as well as fresh juices, smoothies, and protein shakes—with a focus on selling good, honest, and fresh food.

Still currently running nine franchise outlets across regional New South Wales (as well as EQ in Canberra), Vim’s passion for hospitality comes back to helping the local community.

“We love that Canberra still has the benefits of a city but still has the community heart of a small town…We love how safe, friendly and courteous it is here—it’s a great place to raise our families,” says Vim.

“At the moment, our community initiatives centre mainly on trainees—we employ a lot of young people, and we pay the enrolment fees for their hospitality certificates, so they can get qualifications and education while they work. But we are always looking for ways to give back wherever we can, like donating goods to Lifeline and other essential workers.”

Designing the fit-out to be cosy and comfortable (think high-end and modern finishes with gold accents and booth seating) Vim says opening more locations has been something they have planned on doing since taking over the business, though—like most things—the idea was delayed by COVID.

But with plans for another location in Brindabella Business Park (and potentially Gungahlin as well), foodies better get ready for more fresh and delicious options while out and about. Avocado smoothie (with espresso) anyone?
