It’s Uber Eats but for your plants. Meet Housemates.

Ordering online has just been taken up a level with the launch of a brand new plant delivery service here in Canberra. Meet Housemates (AKA plant Uber Eats).
Locally owned and operated by horticulturist, landscaper, owner of Revive Landscapes (and self proclaimed ‘Plant Man’) Dan Cusack, Housemates is a plant store that offers a combination of indoor, outdoor, pet-safe, easy care, and edible houseplants—all available for purchase online, with delivery to your front door.
That’s right, bringing your new best bud to you (get it?) the goal of Housemates is to get more plants in homes—and make sure they’re kept alive.
Inspired by the digital movement, Dan says the idea came to him because he knows not only how incredibly hard it is to locally source incredible houseplants, but he also stands the positive impact they have on mental health.
“I think we can all agree that after the past couple of years, we value our general wellbeing now more than ever before,” he says.
“I’ve been building gardens for over 10 years as a landscaper, and there’s a common saying among us that ‘plant day is the best day,’ because it makes us so happy. I often thought, ‘I wonder if I could start a business selling plants and make every day plant day, while educating and sharing plant love with fellow Canberrans at the same time.”

Believing that every indoor plant is a member of your home (after all, you share your space with them, sometimes you ignore them, they hog the bathroom and they can get in the way, but you love them anyway) through Housemates, Dan wants to make houseplant ownership easy and undo the common stresses that often deter people from having more plants in the home.
“There seems to be a perception that plants are hard to care for, which I think is half the reason why people believe they have a so-called brown thumb and won’t have plants or even worse, they buy plastic ones instead!” he says.
“I want to remove the obstacles that may stop people from getting a houseplant. I figure, if I can help educate people and give them more confidence in caring for a plant, then deliver everything they need to their door, hopefully this will make houseplant ownership easier and more appealing. That way everyone can enjoy the mood boosting benefits of being surrounded by happy, healthy plants that make you happy too.”
Adding new products, services, and content over the coming months—including home-grown fruit and vegetables—all we can say is delivery day just got a whole lot better (and a whole lot harder to hide from your partner). At least it’s not actual Uber Eats right?
