Forget that it’s freezing, Anita Gelato is finally open!

Posted on
For nearly 18 months, ice-cream aficionados have been eyeing off the Anita Gelato hoardings on prime time real estate in the Canberra Centre (facing onto Bunda Street).
Well, it might not exactly be ice-cream weather (someone pass us a hot water bottle please), but the fit-out is complete, and the 76-seat cult ice-creamery is ready to take on Canberra.
So what can people expect from this new gelato bar in Civic? Well if the fanaticism of customers in Sydney and Brisbane is anything to go by, quite a lot.
Started in Tel Aviv by Nir and Adi Avital and their mother Anita just over 20 years ago, the Israeli chain now has shopfronts around the world, including New York, Cyprus, Puerto Rico and Barcelona, London and LA.
Boasting a portfiolio more than 150 flavours, with Canberra to have 36 different flavours on rotation each day, Anita creates tangy frozen yoghurts, fruity sorbets and decadent full-cream ice-creams all churned fresh each day.
Bestsellers including Cookieman, a crunchy chocolatey mix of chocolate hazelnuts, meringue and biscuit, and Milk Chocolate Pretzel which manages to hit that bliss point between salty and sweet. Anita also does a decadent range of toppings including fresh fruit, lollies, house-made jams and rich sauces.
You can find organic, vegan, fat-free, sugar-free and real cream-based gelato, all served with a branded (heart tattoo) wafer.
Beautifully decorated in signature colours of mint green, baby pink and gold, the Anita shopfront will undoubtedly create a stir as it has each time a new branch opens around the world. It promises a taste experience which will make you temporarily forget it’s Canberra in winter.
