A taste of the Mediterranean is coming to Barton. Introducing Med.

Posted on

After Japanese restaurant Lilotang closed its doors in August, fans of the venue might have been wondering what exactly would open in its place.

Well, after completely transforming the hip and contemporary eatery into an oasis, Med is set to bring a taste of the Mediterranean to Barton.

Headed by two-hatted DOMA culinary director Ben Willis, the newest venue from the DOMA Group (situated at the Burbury Hotel in Barton), has been brought to life by Australian architecture and interior design office Luchetti Krelle – and it promises an immersive, relaxed dining experience steeped in Mediterranean charm and a menu that’s packed with the region’s flavours.

“The menu at Med is a celebration of relaxed, casual, and fun dining, inspired by the vibrant Eastern Mediterranean culinary culture. Drawing on inspiration from the region, the menu is inherently healthy, full-flavoured and fresh,” says Ben.

“Plates of bread, dips, light entrees, and mains, complemented by fresh salads and vegetables, all infused with a rich tapestry of spices and herbs you would expect from Eastern Mediterranean food.”

“However, the star of the show is our Josper Oven and Grill. This investment brings an exciting edge to Med, guaranteeing unparalleled flavours associated with the art of charcoal grilling, adding that unique smokiness and depth to our dishes, truly setting us apart.”

Transporting diners from the moment they find the venue, with guest welcomed through a timber-decked courtyard, and clustered Turkish pots that create a path to the arched entry door, Med fosters an inviting Mediterranean experience.

There are also Corten-coloured, steel-lined arches to reclaimed timber beams and natural stone, seeing Luchetti Krelle’s design evoke a paired-back, relaxed and inviting interior. Want to create your own oasis? A private dining setting  for up to 16 diners can be found through an arched portal.

And from an ambience that is a seamless blend of warm textures, neutral hues, and carefully curated international artefacts, complemented by thoughtful lighting and ceramics, every aspect evokes long, lazy and decadent days in the Mediterranean sun.

With the opening following closely on the heels of the opening of the esteemed Louis Dining – and the tag line “love passes through the stomach” – Med looks to be the new escape for summer.
