Fancy a day trip to Việt Nam on Monday?

You won’t even need a plane ticket. Miss Van’s is taking diners on a whirlwind trip of the Southeast Asian country, inspired by recent travels.
Miss Van’s Andrew Duong has always been passionate about championing the flavours of his Vietnamese Laos heritage. Now a recent trip to The Motherland has inspired a new one-day only event – A Day Trip to Việt Nam.
Running from midday until late this coming Monday 25 March, diners will enjoy food and drinks that are Andrew and Head Chef Adam Hazleton’s interpretations of the favourite dishes they ate on their recent 10-day food odyssey from Sai Gon in the south, and Ha Noi in the north.

“It’s been nine years since I had been back to The Motherland (prior to opening my first iteration of Miss Van’s), and my chef Adam’s first time,” says Andrew.
“It was important for me to have head chef Adam understand the flavours within the country. We work well collaboratively on our menu, but he has no reference point for dishes or flavours – something that I do have from my own upbringing.”
Andrew says that they both enjoyed eating our way through “a lot of traditional stuff, but also a lot of ‘modern’ Vietnamese”. The event is an opportunity for them to essentially test some products that eventually might end up on the permanent menu.

Monday’s menu is bursting with freshness and features dishes not easily found in Canberra. Unsurprisingly, it’s hard for Andrew to choose a favourite when asked.
“All the dishes on our Monday menu. Banh cuon (rolled rice crepe, cucumber, nước chấm, herbs, lettuce with pork & wood ear mushroom, cha lua pork loaf, or mushroom and vermicelli.), banh khot (mini turmeric rice flower ‘pancakes’ served with lettuce wraps, herbs and nước chấm with prawn or BBQ corn), Northern-style congee (rice soup), and Pâté Sô (pâté chaud) are the first ones that come to mind.”
We’re adding this day trip to next week’s itinerary under ‘must do’.
Limited bookings are still available for lunch and dinner, and there are a few spaces for walk-ins. Book at missvans.com.au.
