Reality shows these days have really taken a nose dive.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE reality TV. I was hooked on the first Big Brother series, watched couples fight on the first series of The Block and even embraced American reality shows like Keeping up with the Kardashians and Jersey Shore.

Now, most reality shows are all about boobs, booze and bad choices. However, the very clever and funny folk of Axis Hairdressing have decided to create their own online reality show, Tease, all about their Canberra hair salon – and there’s not a scantily clad body or beer in sight.

We’re two episodes into the Tease series. The first introduces the main ‘protagonists’  of Axis Hairdressing: Creative Director Gianni Ciaccia, who opened Axis back in 1991; his nephew Adam, one of Canberra’s most recognisable haircutters and 2012 AHFA (Australian Hair and Fashion Awards) NSW/ACT Hairdresser of the Year; and Nicole, Gianni’s niece, also an integral part of the Axis team.

It’s a smart and slickly produced little episode in line with the reality tv style we’ve got to know so well over the past 10 years, its playful vibe making it easy – and addictive – viewing. And it’s clever marketing, showcasing the hair artistry the salon has developed such a reputation for, and the Ciaccias’ passion for making women (and men) look their best.

In the debut episode, Adam takes new client Mary under his wing and transforms her hair from neglected to sassy and modern; in the second, we see Gianni in action, and we get an injection of reality tv drama when Adam hatches an ‘outrageous plan to cut hair on the sidewalk’.

The series also provides a peek into the business side of choosing a location for a second salon, leaving you wanting to know more about their next venture!
