A loved-up long weekend in Fiji? Here are three ways to do it this winter

Posted on

We have five words for you: ‘four hours to paradise’.

As the jumpers and doonas come out of storage, we’re all dreaming of tropical climes. Lucky for us, four hours is now all it takes to fly (direct!) from Canberra Airport to Fiji this winter, where blue skies, warm waters and romantic resorts await. Sigh.

Better yet, flights start at just $569 per person return on Fiji Airways this June, just in time for the long weekend…ahem.

So, to get you in the mood for your closest tropical vacation yet (I mean honestly, it takes longer to get to some South Coast destinations), we’ve gathered some inspiration.

Romantic vacations don’t get more perfect than an island getaway – think: overwater bungalows, deserted white sand beaches and lazy afternoons on a sun lounge by the pool. So, from beachcomber to bougie, we’ve rounded up three ideas for your Fiji long weekend getaway to suit your travelling style.

‘I want something all-inclusive so I don’t have to lift a finger’

Did someone say ‘adults-only over water bures’? This is what you’ll find waiting for you at the Fiji Marriot Resort Momi Bay, where a string of luxurious bures stretch across a pristine and private aquamarine lagoon.

Featuring stairs that allow you to swim right from your bure and a variety of restaurants and bars across the resort as well as spa facilities (morning at the day spa, anyone?), kava ceremonies, private sandbar tours adventure and plenty more, you’ll never need to leave the resort – maybe not even your room.

‘I want an adventure’

With the tagline of ‘small island, big playground’, Namotu Island might just be the perfect place for thrill seekers in Fiji. If spending your long weekend on a sun lounge is your idea of boring (can’t relate but each to their own), this is the place for you – a long stretch of sun-soaked sand perfectly placed near some of Fiji’s best surfing spots.

With offerings like surfing lessons, spearfishing, sunrise yoga, diving, kite surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, foiling and fishing on the agenda at Namotu, you’ll have a very hard time being bored. And with the famous Cloud9 Fiji floating bar just a short boat ride away, the fun won’t stop after a huge day of hanging ten.

‘I want luxury, romance and adults-only’

Seeking an exclusive, luxurious and private Fiji experience? How does a five-star, adults-only exclusive private island sound to you? We thought you might like that.

Meet the Royal Davui Island Resort, a boutique resort with just 16 villas dotted across a private island surrounded by sparkling ocean. Here, the focus is on a luxurious, private experience – less ‘resort’ more ‘castaway’ – or as the resort puts it ‘barefoot luxury’.

With plenty of activities around the island to keep you occupied – including a day spa, pristine beaches, cultural experiences and infinity pools – and off-island experiences like sand cay picnics, kayaking, PADI diving and day trips to neighbouring islands, you’ll never want to leave.
