Are you expecting or have you just welcomed a new shining light into your world?

Feeling slightly overwhelmed or have a million questions and don’t know where to find information or where you can go to find like-minded mums like yourself?  Don’t stress, you aren’t alone.

Below are 10 resources of online and in-person groups to take advantage of, no matter what stage you are at in your pregnancy.

Motherhood Matters (Griffith)

At Her Matters, they believe there’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to women’s health – which is why they’ve launched a new Motherhood Matters service to their offerings.

Supporting you through preconception through to early motherhood, their perinatal dietitian and psychologist will help you ensure that you’re nourishing your body and help you navigate the emotional ups and downs of all stages of motherhood.

Helping you feel strong and supported every step of the way, from fertility issues to gestational diabetes, it’s everything you need to build confidence.

Mamma Mingle (Pearce)

This is your free welcome space designed as a Little Capsule Co (TLC Co Store) initiative to support mums in every way.

Offering mums a place to connect, re-change, and find their community, ‘Mamma Mingle’ has four different groups that you can become a part of to find your village.

Mamma Mingle is about unwinding in a calm spot, where you can chat with other mums and bring your little one. At Mamma Mingle +, you can attend expert talks on topics you care about to learn more and answer any burning questions you have. You can also attend a book club or go to their ‘refill your cup’ group, offering a safe space for honest conversations and self-care.

The Mumma Hub (Kingston and Dickson)

This is not just a yoga studio that offers prenatal yoga, The Mumma Hub is about helping you find your village, sharing conversations, moving your body and feeling supported at every stage of your journey.

Offering casual classes or five and 10-week yoga term classes, expectant mothers can find their tribe through both the prenatal and mums and bubs classes. You can also join ‘The Mumma Hub Collective’, and engage in movement and wellness, empowerment and education, and receive connection and support, or take part in the pregnancy and mumma workshops to learn from experts, along with growing alongside like-minded mums.

Winnunga Nimmityjah (Narrabundah)

Winnunga Nimmityjah is all about providing quality healthcare to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community within the ACT.

Along with offering services in general health and community services, they provide specialised help through the Australian Nurse Family Partnership Program to aid mothers during and after pregnancy. Winnunga also offers pregnancy and birth classes, a dedicated women’s group and midwifery services.

New Beginnings Birth (Fyshwick)

Focused on providing a stress-free and calm birth experience, New Beginnings Birth is run by an experienced practice and doula, so you are in safe hands.

You can partake in mothers’ groups from zero to six months or six to 12 months to engage in breastfeeding support, birth debriefing, and even a free hypnobirthing information session.

Transform Parenting (Kambah)

Not just a birthing course, ‘Transform Parenting’ focuses on offering workshops, coaching and community connection from pregnancy through to the first seven years of your child’s life.

With courses offered in birthing, caesarean preparation and parent coaching, you can attend in person or online. You can also engage in real stories through their blogs and birth stories and listen to their ‘Transform your Birth’ podcast.

But it’s not just courses, ‘Transform parenting’ also offers resources such as CPR and first aid classes to group catchups, mum classes and birth de-briefs to ensure that you have all the tools and a whole, well-rounded experience.

Keeping Mum (Coombs and Throsby)

Located at two locations within Canberra, ‘Keeping Mum’ is a mother’s group focused on providing a safe, warm and judgement-free zone.

Offering play-based sessions, special guests and specialising in multi-award-winning postnatal exercises, Kangatraining, there is something for everyone.

Kangatraining is a baby-wearing exercise about rebuilding strength after birth and forming connections with other mums. Through low-impact dance cardio, strengthening experiences and floor work to help improve your pelvic floor, you’ll come out feeling stronger and more connected than ever.

CBR Mamas (Online resource)

A page dedicated to empowering mothers. CBR Mamas is about connecting through sharing stories to help you find the joy of motherhood.

Through blogs and birth stories, you are able to engage and connect with real stories and share ones of your own.

‘CBR Mamas’ has also created a directory for anything and everything you might need in your pregnancy journey from breastfeeding, doulas, photography, sleep support, postpartum, cleaning services, and more. They have also provided free resources such as a birth preference list and hospital bag checklist for download.

If you have questions or are looking for resources in every aspect of your pregnancy journey, don’t panic, the ‘Canberra Baby Directory’ has you covered.

This is your one-stop shop for any and all information falling under birth, family, fertility, life with a newborn and pregnancy. Offering business recommendations and companies with links to their website, opening hours and what their resource falls under (eg. health and wellness), there won’t be a stone unturned in your search for information.

Having a Baby in Canberra (Online resource)

This is your one-stop shop for resources and local information for anyone planning their first pregnancy through to the first six week at home with a new baby.

Brought to you by Women’s Health Matters, ‘Having a Baby in Canberra’, provides resources scoping from planning your pregnancy, early pregnancy, pregnancy, labour, and birth and the first six weeks.

Within these areas, you can find resources in fertility and IVF, same-sex couples, birth support, twins and multiple births, emotional well-being and mental health, pelvic floor care, managing pain, caring for a baby with special needs, stillbirth and neonatal death, recovery after a traumatic birth, postnatal physical therapy and your six-week postnatal check-up to state a few, there is a plethora of information to be found.
