It’s all to raise much-needed funds for the CBR NightCrew.

Taking place on Friday 16 January from 9 pm, the iconic Canberra nightclub Mooseheads will be blasting bangers and hosting a themed party to support the people who look after the city when the sun goes down.

Raising funds and awareness for the harm minimisation program that’s helped so many locals in the city’s nightlife precinct – the CBR NightCrew – the party is free to attend, with attendees asked to donate whatever they can on arrival.

Mooseheads spokesperson Ryan Dyson says that supporting the important role the CBR NightCrew plays in Canberra’s nightlife by hosting a party makes perfect sense.

“Mooseheads has always been about bringing people together, and this night is about turning a big night out into something meaningful,” he explains.

“By combining a themed party with a fundraiser, we’re giving people an easy and enjoyable way to support CBR NightCrew, have a great time, and show appreciation for the emergency services and volunteers who keep our city moving after dark.”

Accepting donations at the door and encouraging people to dress to match the theme, 100 per cent of all the funds raised on the night will go to the CBR NightCrew, allowing them to continue the work they do.

Operating year round on Friday and Saturday nights (as well as Thursday nights during daylight savings), the CBR NightCrew was established in 2017.

Jacinta Johnstone, Community Engagement Manager at St John Ambulance ACT, says the donations will go towards improving and increasing the first aid equipment, allowing them to treat as many patients as effectively as possible.

“Our NightCrew support the public in many ways – everything from handing out bottles of water or bandaids, to performing CPR and administering Naloxone when people have overdosed on illicit substances,” she explains.

“In 2024 our NightCrew treated 1,100 patients that required medical assistance and another 10,000 with things like water, phone charging or organising transport to get people home safely when they were too intoxicated to do it themselves. This means on average we supported 88 members of the public each night of operation.”

Eliminating the need for emergency services involvement on average three times every night, the NightCrew significantly reduces the pressure on limited 000, ambulance and police resources during their busiest times.

Given the NightCrew’s vital work in the CBD – including making sure everyone gets home safely – Ryan says that for a venue like Mooseheads, supporting the NightCrew through a themed party fundraiser makes perfect sense.

“Free entry keeps it accessible, and donations on arrival mean people can contribute in a simple, positive way. Knowing the CBR NightCrew is supported by St John Ambulance ACT also gives confidence that funds are going to a well-supported program,” he explains.

“Even small donations go a long way.”

But what can party goers expect? Ryan says a classic Mooseheads night with an added purpose — think DJs, big energy, creative costumes, and a packed dance floor.

Plus, the first 150 patrons through the doors will receive a complimentary Moose Juice on arrival to help kick off the night.
