They had us at an ogre in pasties. A Shrek-based burlesque parody is coming to Canberra

Posted on

An award-winning Shrek-based burlesque parody is coming to Canberra, and we’re predicting that tickets will sell out faster than you can say “What are you doing in my swamp?!”.

Because honestly, they had us at seeing an ogre in pasties.

Bringing its ‘all-star’ spectacle to the Canberra Theatre Centre for one night only in April, Swamplesque will be peeling back all the layers (like an onion) from one of your favourite fairy tales.

Coming from Far Far Away and fresh from smashing box office records at Edinburgh Fringe in both 2024 and 2025, Swamplesque is a parody show that isn’t afraid to get a little muddy.

Featuring the characters you know and love from Shrek – including Donkey, Dragon, Fiona, and the green man himself – the show promises a high-energy, laugh-out-loud night of burlesque, drag, comedy and variety performances.

But you’ll want to leave the kids at home for this one.

Featuring songs from the soundtrack of the original motion picture (yes, including All Star) and with a touch of the risqué, there will be plenty of naughty moments, making the 18+ performance the campiest version you’ll ever see of Shrek.

Because who doesn’t want to see The Gingerbread Man do a perfectly choreographed and expertly executed strip number?

That’ll do, Donkey. That’ll do.

Taking place on Wednesday 29 April, tickets will go on sale from Thursday 19 February. With limited seats available, whether you’re a seasoned burlesque fan or just want to see a silly, sexy, glitter-drenched love letter to Shrek and burlesque, you’ll want to be fast to secure your spot.

It’s not endorsed by Dreamworks but we promise that you’ll still leave enchanted.
