Go wild these school holidays at South.Point (there are reptiles – and chocolate – involved)!

Posted on

If the April school holidays have crept up on you this year, you’re not alone.

Between Easter, cooler weather and the slow realisation that yes, the kids are home for two full weeks, the pressure to have a plan is very real.

The good news? South.Point in Tuggeranong has done the hard work for you with a line-up of activities that tick the boxes for fun, easy and free.

First up: the Easter egg hunt

We’re talking baskets, clues and a centre-wide hunt that sends kids off in search of chocolate (arguably their strongest skill set).

After picking up a basket and clue card, they’ll follow the trail around South.Point, collecting stamps – and eggs – along the way before heading back to compare hauls.

And yes, the Easter Bunny will be making the rounds for photos, waves and general excitement.

Then it’s time to go a little wild

Once Easter weekend wraps, things shift into full school holiday mode to celebrate Earth Day.

For two weeks, South.Point is hosting a hands-on reptile experience that brings kids face-to-face with snakes, lizards and even crocodiles. It’s set to be equal parts fascinating and slightly brave (for everyone involved), and a guaranteed conversation starter long after you’ve left.

Running from Tuesday to Saturday (at 10 am, 11 am and 12 noon) throughout the holidays are nature-themed craft sessions – a good reset button if things are getting a little too high-energy.

A competition where they’re in charge

Instead of parents filling out forms, kids take the lead – answering a series of questions about reptiles and nature to earn their family’s entry into the draw. It’s low-key educational, but more importantly, it’s empowering.

And the prize is a big one: a family trip to Taralga Wildlife Park, a night at Charlie’s on Church and a BMW for the weekend, thanks to Canberra BMW. Not bad for answering a few questions.

Snacks, surprises and small wins

Because no outing is complete without a treat (or two).

There are free Limelight Cinemas passes up for grabs for early competition entries – more school holiday entertainment, thank you very much – and Donut King is adding a little suspense to snack time.

Between 11 am and 2 pm, kids who purchase two cinnamon donuts will receive a specialty bag with a complimentary mini donut – and if luck’s on their side, they might just uncover a golden ticket, with a family pass to the Canberra Reptile Zoo tucked inside.

Two donuts, a bonus treat and a surprise prize? We’re there.
