P59 drives the city’s new golfing experience
Posted on
In golf, P59 is widely known as the “magic number.” It represents the lowest, most elusive score a professional can shoot in a single 18-hole round.
And if golf has largely remained a mystery to you, an experience at P59 may be exactly what you need.
Newly opened at Emu Bank, just near Westfield Belconnen, here is a place designed to make golf accessible, fun, engaging and less, well, “clubby”.
The brainchild of former IT consultant-turned-golf obsessive Matt Fenech, P59 is a place for the love of the game, and not for the rigmarole, cost, time-suck, and intimidation associated with traditional golf clubs.

P59’s owner, Matt Fenech.
For one thing, you can pop in for a round without paying an exorbitant member’s fee any time of day up until 8 or 9 pm (no sunlight, no problem as opposed to a real-life golf course) and get out within the hour.
From a warm, extremely luxe space opposite Lake Ginninderra, you can be transported to the fairways of iconic courses around the world thanks to some high-tech equipment direct from the Pro Tour to create the best virtual golf centre this side of Augusta. Players can instantly switch between championship courses worldwide from a single bay – no international travel required!

Matt wants to bring his enthusiasm and passion for golf to the masses, saying it is an engaging game for all ages, abilities and backgrounds. He became hooked on golf only a few years ago, noting that it ticked his desire for physical activity and competition while being gentle on his back after he recovered from a road accident.
P59 has been designed for both beginners and experts in mind – offering everything from introductory lessons to high-level game analysis and coaching – all without devoting hours to walking the length of an entire course, waiting for bottlenecks to clear, and risking frostbite, rain or sunburn, depending on the weather. Also, there are no backbreaking searches for lost balls.

Instead, the venue features state-of-the-art tracking hardware to digitally recreate an authentic game. Whether it’s three Trackman iO Bays providing full swing analysis, full course access, and extensive data tracking to monitor real-time ball flight, or the private Simulator Suite built around a premium Trackman 4 system, providing the most luxurious spot for private practice or social rounds alongside precise club and ball tracking technology.

Meanwhile, a Puttview Interactive Green uses augmented reality laser technology to project optimal lines directly onto the green to track real-time breaking paths, green reading metrics, and speed feedback – all of which will help the serious golf enthusiast improve their game.
The less serious player can just make a start on their golf journey knowing professional assistance in on hand – if and when they need it, and the younger players can leave the professional courses behind for more fun AI simulations.
If you’re in it for the golf fashion (and honestly who wouldn’t be) then an extensive range from Malbon will make you look good enough for a spot on the pro circuit.

And equipment? P59 specialises in Mizuno, LAB Golf, and Piretti clubs and equipment, and they take this aspect of the game extremely seriously. Noting that investing in a set of clubs is a major outlay, Matt has a team available to do specialised fittings over time, using technology to analyse individual needs and allowing customers to try before they buy.
“We really want people to fall in love with golf. So anything we can do to make them more comfortable, happy and good at the game is why we are here.”

While he has only been open a few weeks, Matt says word is already getting around about the facilities, and he is thrilled to welcome new golfers through the door.
“We are all about building community,” he says, pointing to a sleek marble bar stacked with cold drinks and home to the resident barista. Comfy seating abounds.

“Golf has this reputation for being expensive and exclusive, and we just want it to be about enjoyment of the game. P59 is not about replacing a traditional golf course; it is all about giving golfers more opportunity to come together to do what they love. And for anyone who has been curious about the game, we welcome them to come in and have a shot!”

One-hour bookings on the Puttview interactive putting green start from as little as $15 in off-peak times or you can take out a membership offering you discounts, preferential access and other benefits from as little as $69 a week.
Matt hopes to redefine tee time for everyone – whether they have the potential to score a P59 or not.
