Tip You’re It: Braddon’s kiddie wonderland

Posted on
When you find out you’re expecting a baby, your nesting instincts go into overdrive. So it was rather serendipitous that my first pregnancy coincided with the opening of new Braddon kids’ boutique, Tip You’re It.
First time entrepreneur, Trevor McGee, and his wife Che opened the Lonsdale Street store after noticing a gap in the Canberra market for great baby and childrens’ products.
The bright and playfully decorated store stocks a large range of Australian labels, and a handful sourced from overseas, and has temptations in clothing, homewares, furniture and more.
With a background in retail, the pair believe that while these labels can be commonly found online, it is the opportunity to visit the store to see and feel the products that will draw in customers.
“We were conscious of brands already present in Canberra and so wanted to bring in new labels not yet discovered,” says Trevor.
“We want to work alongside the children’s stores already established in Canberra rather than compete.”
Yet despite the variety already in store, Trevor and Che want to introduce more Australian designers to the Canberra market.
“There are lots of people doing it and doing it well,” says Trevor, and from the long mental lust list I develop walking through the store it’s hard to disagree.
The junior clothing range is an all-Australian range with designs that are just adorable and an extensive collection for both boys and girls, from babies to tweens. Now that Mr Stead and I know the gender of our little one, we will be heading in to design the perfect wardrobe!
Alongside children’s clothes, you’ll find clever furniture that converts and adapts throughout a child’s life, plus children’s books, beautiful crocheted toys, mobiles, lovely prints and plenty of posters. There are also linens and small treasures to fill young bedrooms.
It’s a space full of beautiful things – not at all cluttered – and deliberately so; Trevor reveals the purpose for the store’s layout.
“We’ve purposefully tried to ensure the shop is pram friendly,” he says.
An absolute delightful store brimming with beautiful pieces for every age, it’s now your turn to find that special something for the little person in your life.
Tip, you’re it!
