What to wear to Fashfest 2016

Need some outfit inspo for Fashfest? We asked the experts for their tips on the hottest trends…
Bell Sleeves
Stylist Fiona Keary from Style Liberation believes that with a nod to the 1970s, bell sleeves will be making a return as “this year we’re seeing more of a fluid silhouette with beautiful draping, boho shapes and patterns.”
Off The Shoulder
Stylist Hayley O’Neill and Fiona say this year we’re likely to see plenty of off the shoulder tops and dresses. This style creates width across the shoulder line while also creating balance. The key to pulling off this look is to invest in a great strapless bra, according to Fiona.
Textured fabrics
Recently returned from New York, stylist Danielle Jukic is more than familiar with the latest in fashion and noticed that “another strong tend that came through the stores and the streets were opulent and rich fabrics, so metallic and embroidery fabric.” Danielle suggests switching your everyday earrings for a choker – perhaps a metallic or leather one for a bold look.
Go sheer
Stylist and director of Axis Hair Nicole Dwight says that dominant trends from the northern hemisphere could make their way over, including sheer tops and shirts. This year, she expects to see flares, culottes and interesting sleeve details.
Sequins
Hayley predicts that sequins and off the shoulder styles will be a dominant trend at this year’s shows. She believes that right now, one of the biggest trends is “individuality.” “We’ll see particular guests opting for vintage looks through to guests wearing luxurious Aussie and hopefully even Canberra brands,” she says.
Take a risk
Take a fashion risk! Hayley says that you should take a chance and wear that one-piece you’ve always be afraid to. Bring out that statement piece that’s never made it out of the closet, as FASHFEST is the perfect place for it’s debut. If you’re still stuck on what to wear and your sequinned skirt is nowhere in sight, Jukic says “your look should be about a key piece that stands out and also represents you. This could be a statement clutch or killer heels or even your signature lip colour. Look for something that will set you apart from the rest.” But no matter what the latest trends are, all stylists say sticking to your personal, signature style is key.
