10 Books to Read Before They Become Films

Films adaptations can divide us.

Love or hate the end product, there’s something intoxicating about your favourite book being made into a film. Will they do a good job? Why does that character look like that? That scene wasn’t in the book!

Here are 10 adaptations that will be released this year, just in time for you to read their literary counterparts before buying your ticket.

The sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey sees Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele’s relationship deepen as he begins to open up to her.

This one opens on Valentine’s Day and doesn’t really need any more explanation.

A true story of the black female mathematicians who quietly enabled the biggest achievements in NASA’s history in the 1960s.

The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin

Two strangers on a charter plane crash in the wilderness and have to depend on each other to survive.

Not only will this movie be cinematic (the plane crashes in the Utah mountains) but with Idris Elba and Kate Winslet co-starring, it’s sure to be dramatic (and steamy) too.

Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle

This anthology connects three intertwining romantic tales set in a small American town on a snowy evening.

A delightful and light film, this is one to see with friends.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

This classic mystery follows detective Hercule Poirot as he pursues a murder on this famous train. The last adaptation of this seminal noir novel was in 1974 so I’m sure die-hard Christie fans will be delighted about the update.
