Clear your diaries and get your dancing shoes on. Club Cardio is bringing a whole lot of fun to your Friday night.

With nightclubs and dancefloors still off the COVID-safe activity list, those of us who love a boogie may be feeling somewhat deprived.

But fear not, dance lovers – we have the answer to your Friday night prayers! DC Fit’s Club Cardio is a 45-minute workout combining circuit, strength, dance and cardio with a cranking 2000s’ soundtrack featuring Ginuwine, Salt-N-Pepa, Britney, Beyonce, JLo and more. Guaranteed no sticky floors.

“We’re taking the lights down, and the volume up!’ says Dance Central (DC) director Julie Scheer, who says the studio will be transformed with nightclub lighting to encourage people to let loose.

“We wanted to create a club experience for people who might be missing being able to hit the dancefloors, but also for those who love to go out dancing but not necessarily everything else that comes with a nightclub experience,” says Julie.

(Author’s note: As a 48-year-old woman who used to like nothing better than a night on the dancefloor, but now isn’t quite so keen given she’d probably be the oldest one there by a decade or more, this sounds like a dream).

Club Cardio is taught by Georgie Smith, who has been part of DC’s Hip Hop Crew program for almost a decade and is a familiar face on Canberra’s club performance scene. She says it’s all about having fun in an inclusive and judgement-free environment.

“We’ll be learning some basic moves for the club, focussing on rhythm and coordination while keeping it really simple. It’ll be a chance to kick your weekend off on a high!

“As for what to wear? Workout gear and sneakers – but club it up a notch if you like – I will be!”
