Five ways to shake up your exercise routine in 2024

Posted on

If one of your 2024 goals is to focus on your wellbeing but you’re sick of your normal exercise routine, why not try something completely out of your comfort zone?

Here are five suggestions on how to shake it up this year. And no matter if you’re just looking for some zen, want to have fun, or want to take your physical strength to a whole new level, there’s something for everyone.

For those looking for some zen…

Looking for total rejuvenation of mind, body, and soul? Hot Pilates or yoga might be what you need. Found at Fernwood Tuggeranong, this trendy offering was about more than bringing to heat – it’s all about making your normal Pilates or yoga practice even more mindful, nourishing, and detoxifying.

Heating you from the inside out with infrared heat, not only will you feel warm and relaxed, but you’ll also have much more mobility and flexibility during and after the class. Another huge plus? You’re detoxifying the body in the process, reducing inflammation and helping your health physically and mentally.

Zumba, dance and dance fitness classes are a fun way to discover a new passion! Okay, okay – we know that when you first hear the words ‘dance’ or ‘fitness’ your brain immediately disconnects from the idea, but we challenge you to think: ‘Why not?’ Why not explore a different way to move your body and feel seriously good doing so?

Dance Central and Subsdance Dance Studio are two dance studios that offer a range of classes (think: Hip Hop, Ballet, Burlesque, Heels, Bounce, Barre body, and more) and are also a safe, inclusive space, no matter your ability.

The first in Australia to teach aerial hammock, the largest lyra (aerial hoop) class in Canberra, and home to pole dancing, bungee fitness classes, strength and mobility classes, iSpin Aerial Dance Studio is about more than fitness.

Perfect for stepping out of your comfort zone while creating a connection and making lasting friendships, you might not be able to do everything at once, but you’ll be sure to surprise yourself once you get started.

Is your goal to take your physical strength to a whole new level this year? Meet 98 Gym—a gym that will have you challenging your inner Gladiator à la Russell Crowe. But don’t worry, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill club.

What makes 98 Gym so unique is how they approach each class: you’re not just doing a workout for the sake of exercise—each session actually is part of a larger macro-cycle in their training program. Focusing on high-octane strength and conditioning training, the program is designed by sports scientists and is ideal for anyone looking for an athletically-focused program that has no focus on aesthetics or weight loss. It’s all about feeling good and challenging yourself.

For those who want to tap into their inner Harry Potter…

You read that right. If you love Harry Potter, Quadball might be all the motivation you need to play a team sport this year. It’s a reproduction of Harry Potter’s Quidditch (minus the being in the air part), where teams consisting of seven players on broomsticks battle it out to take home first prize.

Wondering how it works?  The three chasers and one keeper must use a ‘quaffle’ (volleyball) to score in one of three hoops. The two beaters use ‘bludgers’ (dodgeballs) to hit other players, deeming them out of the game until they run back to touch their own goals. The seeker and the snitch are released 18 minutes into play, and the game ends once the seeker has tagged the opposing team’s snitch. However, rather than being a golden ball with flying wings, the snitch is just another muggle…
