On your mark, get set….go! Get on ya bikes, Canberra—the Big Canberra Bike Ride is back.

Kicking off on Sunday 27 February, Canberra’s annual celebration of cycling is inviting riders to register and join the capital’s largest mass participation ride.

Raising money for the Amy Gillett Foundation, the Big Canberra Bike Ride began in 1999 to promote cycling in Canberra. Starting with only two routes, it is now Canberra’s most iconic cycling event for riders of all skills, interests, and abilities.

With several routes to choose from (including the 6km Big Family Ride, the 17-26km Big Lake Ride, the 65km Big Dam Ride and the 116km Big Tidbinbilla Ride), it’s a great opportunity  to get out there with friends and family to enjoy Canberra’s fresh air and spectacular scenery.

CEO of Pedal Power ACT, Ian Ross, says the event gives riders an exhilarating Canberra cycling experience unlike no other.

“The event is such a fun day and we are absolutely delighted to be bringing it back in 2022. It’s been a difficult couple of years but a celebration of cycling gives all of us something to look forward to,” he says.

“The Big Family Ride is a really nice loop for families and new riders. It crosses Commonwealth Avenue Bridged via a closed lane, and meanders around the lake before heading back to the event hub – it’s a classic Canberra sampler. We have a series of longer rides for the more adventurous – with distances ranging from 6km to 116km.”

Starting and finishing at Albert Hall, riders can even enjoy a health and wellbeing expo at the Hub with a range of exhibitors and activities.

According to Ian, the non-competitive event is perfect for families or for anyone looking to smash some personal goals.

“When kids roll over that finish line, they have the biggest smile on their face at having completed what is, for many, the first of a lifetime of outdoor events. They wear their finisher medals with absolute pride.” he says.

Register for The Big Canberra Bike Ride before 11:59pm Friday 14 January to enjoy early bird pricing and bring along your family, your friends and your community to a day they won’t forget.
