A note about COVID safety

For many women, ‘running’ is intimidating—something only done by the fittest of the fit. But it’s a fantastic and flexible way to get fit, make friends and discover your city.
One way to get into running is to reach out and find yourself a fitness tribe; a group of people who can encourage you, mentor you and importantly, keep you accountable.
Luckily Canberra is blessed with a great number of running and fitness groups that can help you stick to your plans, get results and provide an enjoyable journey along the way.
One of the most popular is the YMCA Runners Club of Canberra (formerly the ACT Cross Country Club). With about 1,000 members ranging from new runners through to veterans, you’ll find camaraderie and support—and there are training groups to make sure you’re prepared.
Being part of a running group is such a great experience. It’s a lot easier getting up early in the morning when there’s the assurance of friendly faces and there’s the added motivation of people who will know if you don’t show up.
The advice that you get from experienced runners is invaluable, and many of the YCRC team have numerous half marathons and marathons under their belts.
It’s the perfect opportunity to meet new people, start your day with that glorious endorphin high and make some serious progress towards achieving a new challenge—so make sure you get on board!
