Eight ways to move your body this spring

Posted on

The sun is out, and it wants us to come along and get our bodies moving again!

Canberra is the city for outdoor recreation! With so many exciting events lined up this Spring, there’s no excuse to continue the couch rot.

GEC Women’s Walking Groups

If you haven’t already, you need to add The Good Energy Club’s weekly walk club to your spring wellness ritual. Meeting at Lake Burley Griffin every Friday from 6.30 am to 7.15 am, the walk is followed by casual coffee and conversation.

GEC has grown significantly since we last caught up with them, and now they are launching their monthly Women Walk Together series.

Following the run club boom, there is now an option for women who desire less competition, a slower pace, and more community.

Centred around the question “Why do you walk?”, Women Walk Together gives a safe space to simply walk, talk, connect, and find their people in a relaxed outdoor setting.

The next walk is planned for Sunday 11 October, with the remaining dates for the year to be announced.

Walking Football

Have you ever wanted to play football, but felt intimidated by the competitiveness?

Capital Football is launching the Walking Football program at Hawker Football Club. Designed to support social connection and accessible participation, Walking Football is a low-impact adaptation of the game that’s gaining popularity around Australia.

With one foot required to always be on the floor, inclusivity is at the centre of the game. Ideal for people returning to sport, staying active later in life, or looking for a social sport, Walking Football hopes to provide mental and physical health benefits.

The new season will run from Thursday 29 October through to Thursday 25 March 2027, with 40-minute games running every Thursday at 6.30 pm and 7.20 pm. There will be mixed teams of 10 people, with modified formats (6v6) on smaller pitches.

Registration is now open, with a $180 per person fee.

The Y Sailing Club

The sailing season is about to begin, and with courses starting again at the end of September, The Y Sailing Club wants you to get out onto the water!

Located in Yarralumla Bay, The Y focuses on developing the sailing skills of young people. Along with the sail courses, they offer club racing for off-the-beach dinghies and multihulls.

No experience? No problem! With the help of volunteers and staff, they cater for all experience levels from beginners through to advanced in an environment that is inclusive, fun, and safe for all ages.

If you’re looking for a fun weekend or school holiday activity with the kids, families are encouraged to come along to start their sailing adventure together.

 Tuff Nutterz Inflatable Obstacle Course

Australia’s largest inflatable obstacle course is coming to Canberra for those who have no shortage of energy to burn!

From Saturday 26 to Tuesday 29 September, you can take on 300 metres of fun with wild twists, climbs, crawls, squeezes, and challenges. After all that adrenaline, finish the race with a six-metre inflatable slide!

For the little ones, there will be a mini obstacle course where they can freely bounce, climb, and explore with no pressure.

After 105 minutes packed with action, you can refuel with on-site food trucks.
