Step into your wellness journey at Next Gen Canberra’s self-care sanctuary

We road-test Next Gen’s new spa and wellness facilities in Lyneham – the perfect tonic for a busy modern life.
I’ve always wanted to incorporate more mindfulness into my daily routine.
In a world where we constantly have a phone in our hands to catch the next social media trend, take that phone call from a client, or run to the next meeting, it can be hard to take a moment for ourselves.
If Covid (which seems like a lifetime ago) taught me anything, it’s that we all need to prioritise self-care a little more. However, since the dark days of the pandemic, it can often feel like we’ve tipped over the other end of the scales. I know within my friendship group, we struggle to find a single day, or even a couple of hours, where all our calendars align for a quick catch-up.
Life is hectic. So when I was asked to trial Next Gen’s new spa and wellness facilities in Lyneham, I jumped at the chance.
The adults-only Regeneration Spa is the perfect place for some well-deserved me-time. Put your phone away and warm down in the therapeutic spa to relax your tired muscles and ease any aches and pains. A few minutes in the serene waters and you’ll feel the tension release from your body. Stretching is one thing I always say I’ll make time for, but never do. In the comfort of the spa pool I was able to stretch out my legs using the warm water as support after a long day of sitting in the office.
Members can also gain access to Next Gen’s traditional sauna – an ancient method that helps improve circulation, reduce stress and aids in muscle recovery. It’s been proven to boost cardiovascular conditioning, making it the perfect addition to your fitness routine.

After your gym class, hop into the sauna, steam room, ice bath, or all three!
If that wasn’t enough, there’s also my personal favourite, the steam room. For overthinkers like me, it’s the ultimate way to unwind. With no distractions, you can focus on your breathing as the steam opens up your pores to revitalise your skin while decongesting your airways. It’s also fabulous for muscle recovery and helps reduce fatigue from workouts and everyday wear and tear.
Ice baths and contrast therapy (alternating hot and cold exposure) are often used for reducing muscle soreness, improving circulation, and enhancing overall well-being. Ice baths are believed to help fight inflammation, boost energy, and even support immune function, while contrast therapy takes it a step further by promoting joint mobility, and easing muscle stiffness.
Once you’ve rejuvenated, you can recharge with a nutritious brekky, superfood salad, or a fresh berry smoothie from the Next Gen Café menu. There’s coffee available all day, or put your feet up and sip on a glass of your favourite wine in the lounge or alfresco dining area. My personal favourite is the Tropical Tango smoothie with mango, banana, coconut water and pineapple juice.
And if you need to offload your little ones for an hour or two, the Kids Creche is available for members with care provided for children aged from three months to five years.
Next Gen provides everything you want for your wellness journey in one place. Modern spa and fitness facilities, many varied gym classes, attentive staff, and fresh yummy food served in modern dining areas.
So, whether you’re a gym bunny who thrives in the weights section, an avid yogi, a spin class fiend, or simply looking for a space to unwind away from the hustle and noise of everyday – Next Gen’s spa facilities could be your new home of self-care. A self-care sanctuary, if you will, to kick start your wellness journey and unplug from the daily grind.
