Tomorrow’s goals, Today’s plan

If you love the exhilarating feeling of wind rushing through your hair, you’re not alone.
Cycling is a major trend in Canberra and getting into the sport may take up less time than you think.
In 2014, a team of qualified sports scientists, leading software engineers and business people gathered together with one common goal: to improve analytics and data tools for cyclists to train with more efficiency, and with this goal Today’s Plan was created.
Founded and developed in Canberra, Today’s Plan aims to give cyclists a new edge to their training programs. The team provides structured plans tailored to individuals at all levels of experience, allowing everyone to maximise their results in the most time-efficient manner.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out on your fitness journey or you are a seasoned elite athlete, having a fully customised structured training plan will help you to become fitter, faster and stronger,” says Product Designer James Peek.
Today’s Plan has recently worked with professional riders including Tour de France winners, Team Sky as well as beginners who have little experience in cycling. Their programs are aimed at athletes and everyday riders who want to manage their time wisely or people who feel like their fitness has plateaued.
“At Today’s Plan, fitness and training plans [are] tailored specifically to fit your schedule and can easily fit in with any group rides, commutes or social riding that you’re currently doing.”
An incredible role model for beginner cyclists is Canberra mum Julia Chadburn, who completed her first 24-hour solo race while completing a training program from Today’s Plan.
Julia believes that cycling is a great way to keep fit and get out of your comfort zone while finding that me time for yourself. Not only is it an incredible source of exercise it’s also a very social community built on relationships between other cyclists who are a great support network. Today’s Plan worked really well for Julia as she could use her mobile phone to complete workouts and the sessions would fit into her schedule (either on the road or in her lounge room) giving her instant feedback and weekly emails to keep her goal-orientated.

We asked her to share some of her top tips for beginner cyclists.

Benji Marshall – Operational Coach
“A ride is so much more rewarding when the view is as picturesque as the mountains of Tharwa and the breathtaking track of Brindabella’s. Nothing beats racing through just as the sun is setting over the hills to inspire a great ride.”
Robert Bleeker – Developer and Designer
“The Arboretum not only has astonishing views as the sun rises but it’s also a fantastic location to complete hill training workouts for all levels of fitness.”
