It’s one of the greatest Christmas traditions – piling into the car to drive around to look at lights.

Luckily, the Canberra Christmas Lights Trail is back for 2023 to help Christmas lovers explore some of the best lights in the region. And this year, it’s bigger (and brighter) than ever.

Using the handy map, to help get you started, we’ve found 10 cracking Christmas light displays that you need to see in Canberra (as well as 100 more options).

Grab your crew and blast some carols in the car – it’s time to start planning your Christmas cruise.

13 Ruthven Street, Gowrie

What you can expect: Music, inflatables, walk-in displays, lasers/projections, and more, this is one of the largest solar light displays in Australia – and it’s all for a good cause. Raising money for Multiple Sclerosis, this is part of Christmas Lights for MS and one the of best and brightest in Canberra!

31 Symers Street, Kambah

What you can expect: A large walk-in display that features all the magic of the season – from Christmas statues to music and even bubble, snow, and smoke machines. It promises to be fun for the whole family.

77 O’Conner Circuit, Calwell

What you can expect: This house has been lighting up the sky for 15 years – and this year the display is bigger and brighter. Interactive, fun, and stunning, there’s even a gingerbread house-themed workshop, ready for Santa!

1 Eaglemont Retreat, Conder

What you can expect: Also raising money for MS, the best thing about this is the singing props. Take the kids along and watch as they have a blast with Bluey and the Minions.

Burraly Court, Ngunnawal

What you can expect: Twinkling until 11:30 pm each night, this display is supporting Karinya House. And with Christmas music, inflatables, walk-in displays, projects, and more, you won’t regret stopping off here.

Foveaux Street, Ainslie

What you can expect: This large display has everything from moving features to giant inflatables – including many, many Santas. The real question is, will the giant Christmas dinosaur make an appearance this year?

225 Newman-Morris Circuit, Oxley

What you can expect: Over 40,000 LED lights synchronised to music – need we say more? And the best part is, if the crowds are a bit much you don’t even need to get out of the car to enjoy the show. You can tune in straight from the radio!

Huddy Street, Forde

What you can expect: A massive display with over 500,00 lights, this street in Forde will be lighting up the night with moving features, lasers, and more. And that’s just the beginning…

8 Scurry Street, Dunlop

What you can expect: They had us at ‘5 metre Santa and reindeer’. Stop off and grab a seasonal selfie.

49 Frances Burke Street, Gungahlin

What you can expect: Stroll under the walkways, sit in Santa’s sleigh, play in a gingerbread cubby house, and take some photos with the big man in red himself. Raising money for Ronald McDonald House, this large display is a must-visit.
