Can’t afford to get away? No need. We’ve designed the perfect Canberra Girl’s Sunday in Braddon—get set to eat, drink, stretch and be pampered!

Sometimes we crave a weekend away, a quick road trip with friends to disconnect and relax. But sometimes that’s just not possible. Lucky for you, the perfect Sunday is just around the corner.

Yep, that’s right – here’s our Canberra Girl’s Guide to a nurturing and fun day in Braddon. We’ll provide the itinerary—all you need to do is book ahead. Be sure to check all the opening times and map out your day around this.

GET PREPPED

Get kitted out and prepare for a packed day (all within a few blocks!)

Clothes: smart casual with a piece that can be added for when you head to dinner. You will also need a change of activewear for your yoga session.

Shoes: No heels—you’ll be doing a lot of walking so choose comfort.

Bag: something slouchy that can be swung over your body so your hands are kept free for all that shopping and eating you are about to do.

Hair and Makeup: No need! The girls at Saloon are going to take care of you.

This is going to be a jam-packed day so we need to fuel up. First stop, Eighty Twenty (80/20). The team at 80/20 believe that food is fuel and that everybody benefits from clean, natural and unprocessed whole foods.

Serving breakfast and lunch from 7am – 3pm on weekends, 80/20’s menu is jam-packed with all sorts of choices. How about their green nourish bowl with asparagus, broad beans, cauliflower, kale, grilled zucchini, roasted pepitas, served with semi-dried tomato, roast capsicum pesto and a poached egg, sprinkled with chilli paprika salt? Or perhaps the apple and coconut bircher with grated apple, almonds, coconut and almond milk served with passionfruit yoghurt and seasonal fruit and coconut yoghurt. Top it off with a coffee or a breakfast smoothie and your body will be ready to go.

Time for a pit stop because let’s face it, shopping is hard work and uses up a lot of energy and we all need a little caffeine injection! RYE is a refined café that sits amongst the buzz of Lonsdale Street serving up Five Senses coffee and fresh, simple food. Grab a table outside on the path, watch the world go by and catch your breath after your shopping spree.

Ok so we’ve been very virtuous so far—we’ve fueled our bodies with nutritious wholefoods and had a yoga session, so now it’s time to indulge a little.

Grease Monkey’s menu is full of some of Canberra’s best burgers and we especially love the ‘Dirty Bird’—Southern fried chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, Greasy’s sauce and served with a side of Greasy’s fries.

Wash it down with one of their Americana sodas (Cherry Cola is so good) and you are set to start the second half of your day.

You’ve eaten, you’ve shopped and you have moved your body. Go pop all your purchases in the car and make your way to Saloon—it’s time to sit back and relax while the girls pamper you and get you ready for your afternoon drinks and dinner.

The girls at Saloon offer a number of services but we think their bottomless bubbles and a blow dry for $85 is a pretty sweet deal.

Also starting soon, Saloon will be running makeup and curling workshops, so if the timing lines up, this might be a fun option. Or you can chat to the girls and see if they run a private class for you.

There is no better place to finish off your day in Braddon than at one of Canberra’s most iconic restaurants, eightysix. Be sure to make your booking ahead and select the 6pm seating time.

The dinner menu has two options—all you can eat for $120 per person OR the tasting menu which is $80 per person. The tasting menu is a lot of fun if you let the guys choose the dishes.

Do not leave without ordering the Banoffee Pie for dessert. Trust us, it’s the perfect end to a perfect day.
