A giant five-metre Grogu is coming (and it’s not to a galaxy far, far away)

Yep, that’s one big Baby Yoda.
On Friday 22 May, a giant five-metre Grogu is coming to the Canberra Centre to celebrate the release of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu on Thursday 21 May at Dendy Canberra’s IMAX – and it sounds adorable.
Celebrating the release of the first Star Wars movie since 2019’s Rise of Skywalker, the blockbuster-sized Star Wars experience will be taking over the Centre Court for two days only across the opening weekend, giving visitors the chance to step inside the world of Star Wars before or after seeing the film on Canberra’s only IMAX screen.
Standing at five metres tall and four metres wide, the activation marks the first time Disney has brought an interactive experience of this scale to Canberra instead of a galaxy far, far away (Sydney or Melbourne), allowing locals to experience a blockbuster movie activation without having to travel. And who can resist a photo opportunity with one of Star Wars’ cutest characters?
Sharon Strickland, Dendy Cinemas CEO, says the activation represents a major moment for Canberra audiences and reflects the growing appetite for blockbuster entertainment experiences in the capital.
“Normally, experiences like this are reserved for Sydney or Melbourne, so it’s incredibly exciting to see Canberra included for the first time,” she says.
“With Dendy Cinemas Canberra home to the region’s only IMAX cinema, it made perfect sense to pair one of the year’s biggest movie releases with an activation that feels just as large and immersive as the experience on screen.”
“We know Canberrans love film and showing up for major cinematic moments, and this feels like the beginning of more large-scale activations and experiences coming to the capital in the future.”
Free to visit, you can find Grogu in Centre Court from Friday 22 to Saturday 23 May. A super-sized version of the little creature that stole our hearts? Star Wars fans will be racing to the Canberra Centre – but the real question is can they do it in less than 12 parsecs?
