A new chapter for Canberra’s Undercurrent Design Market
Posted on
Are you one of the thousands of Canberrans who have the Undercurrent Markets bolded in your calendar? Well it’s happening again in 2025, and this year there’s a little twist.
Following a successful shift to their new venue at Dairy Road last year, Undercurrent hosted more than 70 talented makers from across the country in 2024, attracting over 13,000 visitors, and generating more than $350,000 in revenue for participating artisans.
After 16 years of championing Australian makers and creators, the Undercurrent Design Market is embarking on an exciting new chapter with Founders Richard Baz and Mel O’Hanlon of The Curatoreum announcing they are gifting their beloved event to Craft + Design Canberra.
“The transition will ensure the continued growth and success of this celebrated event within Australia’s craft and design community,” Richard and Mel said.
Known for running the Craft + Design Festival, CEO and Artistic Director of Craft + Design Canberra, Jodie Cunningham, said receiving stewardship of Undercurrent was a natural fit.
“It is an extraordinary gift in alignment with our vision to celebrate and cultivate our artists and our community,” Jodie said.
“Craft + Design Canberra cultivates pathways for entrepreneurship and enterprise development in the craft and design economy. It is important to address the ever-present economic fragility which underpins the arts sector.”
“We can’t wait to welcome Canberrans along to yet another wonderful event in November.”
For craftspeople, artists, designers, and makers keen to take part, stallholder applications are now open and close on Sunday 20 July.
