She Leads 2018: Reigniting the revolution
There is nothing more powerful than a room full of women who have got each…
Of all the cult movies, you’d be forgiven if American Psycho wouldn’t be your first choice for a musical adaptation.
However, a new production coming to Canberra Theatre Centre this June begs to differ.
American Psycho – The Musical will run in The Playhouse from 30 June–4 July promising a “sexy, dark, disturbing and downright hilarious” show.
Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 cult classic American Psycho (and the 2000 film adaptation), American Psycho – The Musical is billed as a “chilling, wickedly comedic insight into a society driven by capitalism, self-image and wealth”.
A genre-defying social satire that’s as hilarious as it is dark, American Psycho tells the story of Patrick Bateman, handsome New York businessman and part-time—spoiler alert—American psycho.
Starring Ben Gerrard, the musical will feature music and lyrics by Tony Award-winner Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening) and 80s music lovers will be in heaven with a soundtrack of Phil Collins, Tears for Fears, New Order and Huey Lewis and the News.
This will be the musical’s Canberra premiere after a successful 2019 season in Sydney that saw the show scoop nine 2020 Sydney Theatre Awards.
