Are you a young art lover keen to meet fellow creators and take over a national cultural institution after dark? Make that dream come true at the National Gallery of Australia tomorrow night.
A mashup between a festival and a Halloween party with your best mates, Art IRL: Lucky Charm will see 15-25-year-olds take over the National Gallery in person or online from 6-9 pm on Friday 13 October. Did we mention it’s free?
There’s something for everyone across the night, with a host of activities, activations, performances, talks and exhibitions – from artist-led workshops to music and dance – event SFX makeup classes!
It’s the perfect arty early Halloween celebration.

Curate your own experience by selecting and engaging in different activities throughout the evening. There is something for everyone!
Make a Lucky Charm Doll
Janet Fieldhouse, Kalaw Lagaw Ya/Meriam Mir people takes inspiration from her matrilineal connections to the Torres Strait Islander communities to create intricate and small-scale sculptures which depict the elasticity in nature.
Participate in a creative workshop with the artist, engage multiple senses as you craft your very own sculpture – a lucky charm doll.
Spirits of the Gallery: Haunting tales from First Nations Art
Join Tina Baum, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Curator, as she takes you on an eerie tour of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Art Galleries. Be prepared to connect with the First Nations art collection through spooky ghost and spiritual stories!
Spooky Moves with Fresh Funk
If you love to move and groove, join the talented crew from Fresh Funk in a spine-chilling workshop where you’ll learn a spooky choreography that’ll leave you mesmerised!
Youth Council in conversation with Janet Fieldhouse
