Celebrate Mum all month long at The Tradies

Posted on

Who says Mother’s Day should be limited to just one Sunday in May?

This year, The Dickson Tradies is transforming the entire month into a celebration of mums featuring a calendar full of experiences delivered by local artists, musicians and winemakers. From creative workshops and relaxing wellness sessions, every event has been handpicked to showcase the best of Canberra’s local talent—ensuring mums of all kinds feel celebrated, connected, and inspired.

Free Mother’s Day festivities

The centrepiece of the month-long celebration happens on Sunday, May 11, when The Tradies invites it members to enjoy a day of completely free events designed to delight mums of all personalities.

Between 12 pm and 3 pm, the Lounge transforms into a bustling hub of entertainment with face painting by Felicity MClachlan from Make A Face, caricatures by the talented Chris Wilson, and the mesmerising sleight-of-hand of roving magician Conor Leisky. For mums who appreciate a soundtrack to their special day, Timothy Patterson will be performing live music that creates the perfect atmosphere for a leisurely Sunday.

Little ones can treat Mum to a surprise with balloon artistry by Dr Chloe Lim, happening from 12 pm until 2 pm in Essence before moving to the Lounge from 2 pm until 3 pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to create a memorable day without breaking the family budget.

Why not make a day of it and book a table at Essence Restaurant so she can enjoy a delicious meal as well? Just make sure to plan ahead to make sure mum doesn’t miss out!

For the wine-loving Mum

If your mum’s love language involves a quality glass of cool climate wine, The Tradies has you covered with multiple tasting events throughout May. Murrumbateman Winery showcases their stellar lineup on May 16, and 23, while Gallagher Wines hosts tastings on May 16, 24, and 31.

For mums with discerning palates, don’t miss the Long Rail Gully Winery tasting on May 30 or Collector Wines on May 24—both offering the chance to sample some of our region’s most celebrated drops.

When Mum needs some mystical guidance

For the spiritually curious mother, Melissa Ohana offers free tarot readings on May 19—perfect for mums who appreciate a glimpse into what the universe might have in store for them.

The truly transcendent experience arrives on May 17 with a free Sound Healing and Cacao Ceremony from 10:30 am, ideal for mothers who value wellness and mindfulness. Pair it with the morning Stretch Session hosted by Team Fitness Centre at 9:30 am for a complete mind-body reset that any busy mum deserves.

Creative experiences she’ll remember

If your mum treasures creative experiences over material gifts, watch her face light up with an Aura Painting by Nessa Lovell on May 23 or book in for the free Perfume Making Workshop on May 24.

For fashion-forward mums, the Free Styling Workshop with Kimberley Hunt on May 25 (book here) and Party Makeup Session with Florian Lau (book here) on May 31 offer chances to refresh her look with professional guidance.

Nights out aren’t forgotten either—with live music from Sugar & Cream (May 16), and The Rubiks Dudes (May 23), plus a nostalgic Disco Night with DJ Sue on May 30.

But wait, there’s more

During the month of May, Tradies is also offering you the chance to spend and win some amazing prizes that mum will love. Simply spend $10 on food and/or drinks and you’ll automatically go into the draw to win a Dyson Airwrap (first prize), a Nutribullet Blender (second prize) or a Jackson Frameo digital photoframe. With the winners drawn on 6 June, keep an eye out!

Full of special moments, the Tradies’ thoughtful programming reminds us that celebrating the mothers in our lives shouldn’t be confined to a single calendar day. This May, give her what she really wants—quality time, new experiences, and the chance to indulge in her personal passions.
