10+ must-follow sources of local Canberra lifestyle and news

Posted on

As you likely know by now, Facebook has said ‘Zuck you’ to the Australian Government’s proposed media bargaining laws and locked up the Facebook accounts of publishers, small and large, nationwide.

So your newsfeed looks a little different. Gone is HerCanberra’s main Facebook page—and we’re devastated at the loss of 10 years of community-building—but so are the hard-won Facebook presences of a lot of other important players who make our city’s news and lifestyle content some of the best in the country.

So we wanted to put together a short and sharp list of publishers all Canberrans—especially those new to the city—should follow, along with what they do best, and their links and social handles. After all, it’s never been more important to support our local media and publishers!

NEWS

The Canberra Times

This ex-Fairfax, now Australian Community Media-owned newspaper is Canberra’s OG news bible. Their reporters cover everything a traditional paper should, from international headlines to local breaking news.

Especially excellent for coverage of the ACT Legislative Assembly and local government.

The RiotACT

If you love regional news, this is one to follow, as they’re seriously committed to giving voice to those in the areas surrounding Canberra.
