It’s fairly telling that the Canberra Theatre Centre’s June blockbuster show, Cyrano de Bergerac, is…
Building on the success of purpose-built social media venues like New York’s The Museum of Ice Cream and Melbourne’s Sugar Republic, Canberra will soon welcome The Selfie Factory.
If you’ve never heard of a location that exists solely for the purpose of taking photos for social media, you’re not alone. But you better believe it’s a thing—and a thing that is coming to Canberra.
Featuring a series of high-concept ‘sets’ designed to create the backdrop for the perfect photo, selfie or TikTok, The Selfie Factory will be soon become Canberra’s social-media mecca.
Co-founders Sophie and Matt Willis have previously worked with similar international venues and are excited to bring the experience to Canberra.
“We have worked with a few selfie museums overseas helping them create designs and have decided to take the leap and create our own from scratch,” says Sophie.
“We are in the process of finalising negotiations on a location and hope the building will be completed in the next few months.”
Boasting “at least 20 unique sets with photo-perfect lighting to make sure everyone gets an amazing shot”, The Selfie Factory will follow in the footsteps of viral sensations The Museum of Ice Cream in New York City and Melbourne’s Sugar Republic, which has become so successful since its inception in 2018 that it has expanded to Sydney and Brisbane.
While Sophie is tight-lipped about the location she says they’re looking at a location around the city and northside, with promo photos previewing sets inspired by Drake’s song Hotline Bling, Netflix’s Stranger Things and a cloud swing inside a blue and purple cave.
Sophie says that tickets will be $25 for 60 minutes, with guests encouraged to take as many photos as they like within the hour.
Watch this space. And say cheese.
