DJ Sue is hitting the decks this Saturday night and, yes, she takes requests

Viral sensation DJ Sue will be hitting the decks at The Tradies Dickson this Saturday night and did someone say ‘big night out’?
If you somehow missed the meteoric rise to fame that was DJ Sue in 2021, let us fill you in. DJ Sue, 65, of RunAround DJs, has been dropping bangers in Canberra and surrounds for over a decade, but last year a video of her DJing out the front of the Dickson Library went viral on Twitter and a star was born.
DJ Sue’s dance card has been chock-a-block since, with her TikTok attesting to how her week can include everything from weddings to community events to appearing on breakfast TV and Australia’s Got Talent (four YESes from the judges!) and, last week, DJing at the Sydney Showground for the BBL Thunder Final.
“Since that video went viral my life has certainly changed for the better and I’m really loving what I do these days,” says Sue. “I’ve had so many different gigs come into my life and I’m truly overwhelmed by what has happened.”
And this weekend, you’ll get to have the DJ Sue experience live, loud and in colour at The Tradies as DJ Sue presents Saturday Night Fever, with plenty of hits from the ‘80s to now.
Kicking off at 8.30 pm this Saturday 11 February, the gig is free (yes, free!) for Tradies members and their invited guests and those who would like to spend the $6 to become a Tradies member for a year (just $4 for seniors!). Could this be Canberra’s best value gig? We think so.
Sue says she can’t wait for Saturday night—but it’s far from her first time dropping bangers at The Tradies.
“I just love being at The Tradies. I’ve been there for many years, starting out doing every Friday night as a Retro Disco night in a DJ booth! People started to know I’d be there and then came along when they finished work to have a dance and let their hair down. I now have quite a large ‘following’ at The Tradies and have made many new friends since being there.”
“The Tradies is a fantastic club and you get all kinds of people coming along to either sit and enjoy the music or get up and have a dance. The staff are incredible and I feel ‘at home’ when I’m there. I just can’t wait to be back there on Saturday night.”

Naturally, The Tradies is excited to welcome back their most popular performer.
“We’re honoured to have DJ Sue as a beloved and integral member of our community. Her unwavering passion for music and infectious positivity has been a constant source of inspiration and joy for us,” says Nitya Taneja, Marketing and Communications Executive at The Tradies.
“Long before she reached fame, we were proud to call her a part of our family. As she continues to soar to new heights of success, we celebrate her achievements and are grateful to have played even a small role in her magnificent journey.”

Having been a performer for more than 13 years, Sue says the joy of DJ-ing is all about the atmosphere music can create.
“I never had a great knowledge of music but I grew up in the ‘80s going to discos in Sydney and loved those years so much. That music brings back so many wonderful memories for me but I really enjoy seeing people on the dance floor having fun. That’s what life is all about and I’m very lucky to be able to bring that into people’s lives.”
