The easiest way to make time for your side project

Posted on

Are you one of the thousands of Canberrans with a side project?

Maybe you’re writing a novel, creating a personal website or selling cross stitch on Etsy.

Perhaps you’ve turned your side hustle into your full-time gig and now spend your time balancing freelance jobs.

Maybe you’ve just had a project in mind for a while or a task you need to get finished, like a refreshed resume, a clean inbox or even a letter of resignation.

No matter what you’re keen to crack into, we can all agree that it’s a struggle to find the right time and headspace in which to do it.

This procrastination is why Melbournian creative Madeleine Dore, created Side Project Sessions. Now held in multiple cities across Australia, Side Project Sessions offers structured sessions with bottomless coffee, tea and snacks for maximum productivity.

In Canberra, Side Project Sessions is run at KeepCo, a creative co-working space in Fyshwick’s Dairy Road and the next event is happening this Sunday 10 December.

KeepCo co-founder, graphic designer and founder of Side Project Sessions Canberra Anna Trundle says that magic happens when you’re surrounded by like-minded people.

“Self-doubt, procrastination, not enough time, needing to do the laundry–there are plenty of blocks to starting your side project, creative idea, or even that bunch of life-admin that continues to fall to the bottom of the to-do list,” she says.

“Side Project Sessions offers an antidote: time, accountability and quiet to help you do the task you’ve been putting off, big or small.”

With free WiFi, desks with office chairs, powerpoints, and bottomless tea, coffee and snacks on offer, Side Project Sessions follow a structured and effective formula—45-minute timed sessions of quiet productivity with 15-minute breaks to refuel, relax and chat with fellow attendees.

Don’t think you have a project or task worthy of the event? Check your to-do list and you may be surprised.

“Novels, job applications, assignments, photo editing, website building, embroidery, sketching, reading, blogging, catching up on emails…what you work on is entirely up to you and there’s no pressure to talk about your work if you don’t want to,” says Anna.

“Side Project Sessions is distraction-free time, bottomless snacks and drinks to keep the momentum going and a pleasant environment to quietly chip away at your project with like-minded creatives by your side”.

This Sunday’s session runs from 10 am-1 pm and registration is just $12. Check Facebook for all the details on what to bring and send a message to Anna if you have any questions.

Places are limited so make sure you reserve your seat early and make the time for your labour of love–you know it’s worth it.
