Eight new horror films to watch for Halloween 2025
Posted on
Last year, we handed you 85+ horror movies on a silver platter. This year? We’re dragging you deeper into the darkness. Because let’s be honest – 2025 has been the year of horror, and we’re not just talking about the news cycle.
From the return of iconic franchises (Final Destination, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and yes, 28 Years Later) to fresh nightmares that’ll have you sleeping with the lights on, this year reminded us that nothing hits quite like a good scare.
So grab your cosiest blanket (for hiding behind) and your bravest friend (for screaming with), and settle in. We’ve got your Halloween viewing sorted.
Sinners
What do you get when you duplicate Michael B. Jordan, mix some jazz blues with Irish jigs, and throw in a fight til dawn with vampires? You get the masterpiece that is Sinners.
Set in 1930s Mississippi, this film uses the supernatural horror of vampirism to explore the lived realities of Black Americans. This is definitely one of my favourite films of the year, and trust me, double the Michael B. Jordan equals double the hotness.
Weapons
One night at 2:17 am, every child (besides one) from Mrs Gandy’s classroom left their beds and disappeared into the night. But what truly happened? Honestly, you will NOT predict what happens in this film. Just know that this one will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about creepy kids and suburban nightmares.
Together
Long-term relationships and codependency – scary, right? After moving to the countryside (red flag number one), this couple stumbles across a cursed cave (red flag number two) that forces them to face their unspoken issues and loss of individual identity. This is the film to show a friend when they get too relationship-focused and start ignoring you.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
A classic example of why honesty is the best policy – and why you should never, ever cover up vehicular manslaughter.
You’d think after three films, people would learn, but no, they don’t. This is a really fun, silly reboot of the ’90s slasher that doesn’t take itself too seriously!
Stay tuned for the guest appearances in this one – keep an eye out for some familiar faces, because you might just lose your head over the nostalgia.
Final Destination: Bloodlines
Ah yes, the film franchise that continues to make you too scared to literally step outside of your house and do anything. Escalator? Death trap. Swimming pool? Murder machine. Gentle breeze? Probably fatal.
This one surprised me in a good way. It paid homage to its predecessors whilst also creating a fresh take on the franchise, proving that Death still has some creative kills up its sleeve.
What I will say is let these films be a lesson to never, ever drive behind those log trucks. IYKYK.
Companion
Picture this: you’re on a lovely weekend away in a secluded area with two other couples. All is going beautifully, until it’s revealed that you are actually a robot that your boyfriend bought. Yikes.
It’s techno meets thriller meets romantic comedy meets horror movie – basically, it’s a genre-blending fever dream that’ll have you side-eyeing your partner and questioning everything about modern relationships. Because nothing screams romance quite like discovering you’re programmable.
Bring Her Back
This plot follows two step-siblings who find themselves orphaned and placed in the middle of an occult ritual by their new foster mother. Could things be worse? Apparently so.
Now, I haven’t seen this film yet, but I do know it was directed by Australian twins Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou. They made their directorial debut when they wrote and directed the supernatural horror film Talk to Me – you know, that film about the creepy hand that lets you talk to dead people.
If Bring Her Back is anything like that, I apologise in advance for the nightmares you’ll have.
28 Years Later
It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus turned Britain into a zombie-infested hellscape, but some have found ways to exist amid the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland (because isolation has worked out so well in horror movies, right?), but when one of them decides to venture out, he soon discovers a mutation that has spread to not only the infected but other survivors as well.
Guts and gore galore – it wouldn’t be a good Halloween roundup without a flesh-eating component.
