It’s Elsa and Anna vs Skywalker as Canberra’s biggest ever toy store prepares for launch

At the south end of Majura Park Shopping Centre, something magical is happening.
A new toy store is coming to life in more than 1560sqm of space, including shelves stacked with new favourites like diamond art, Nerf blasters and 12V scooters, and old favourites like Lego, trampolines and My Little Ponies.
The newest Toymate Australia store officially opens in Canberra on Saturday 9 November, and Canberrans can expect the kind of enchanting toy shop made famous by Mr Magorium.

Less a toy store and more a toy ‘experience’, Toymate has bright, rainbow-coloured aisles packed with 12,000 toys, creative brand spaces that allow kids to interact with the characters they love and dedicated entertainment zones.
And for the first few weeks at least, the new store at Majura Park will be a sea of black and blue, as Frozen 2 and Star Wars fever envelopes the globe.
This Christmas is all about Anna, Elsa and Olaf, and a new generation of Jedis according to Toymate Australia’s Anna Tabachnik, with both Disney movies due to hit Australian screens in December.
“There’s no doubt movie merchandise is among our biggest sellers—Marvel and Toy Story 4 have also been huge this year,” says Anna.
“The big outdoor items that mum and dad used to ask for for Christmas, like trampolines, bikes and swing sets, are always going to be big sellers at this time of year.”

According to Anna, whose favourite toy as a child was Monopoly—“we had games that would go on for days and days”—the Toymate Canberra store will feature a parents’ room and a large area dedicated to baby gear and preschool toys.
Toys designed to get kids away from screens and out into the great outdoors are a key focus at Toymate. The store’s huge outdoor section includes brands like Repco, Diamondback, Hyper, and scooters by Razor, Micro, Globber and Airwalk.

“At Toymate, you’ll find product demonstrations and activities in store regularly,” says Anna.
“We’re so excited to become part of the Canberra community—and our 25 local team members will be here to help Canberrans find that special gift for every age and occasion.”

Capital Airport Group’s head of property Richard Snow said he was delighted to see a new toy shopping experience coming to Canberra.
“Toymate has an excellent reputation—it’s known for its outstanding customer service, price-match promise and great in-store experience. It’s a perfect fit for shoppers at Majura Park,” he says.

Toymate opens at Majura Park Shopping Centre at 9 am on Saturday 9 November, with free fairy floss, popcorn, face painting, and lucky door prizes.
If you’re keen to be first in the door, enter the Rainbow Pass competition, where Toymate is letting 30 lucky Canberra kids in the door a day early on Friday 8 November. Competition closes on Monday 4 November @ 9 am.
