The Sesame Street Circus Spectacular has rolled in to town to delight Canberra audiences.
Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street? Unfortunately right now, to get to the home of Elmo, Grover, Bert and Ernie, you’d be staring down some lengthy delays and battling some pretty complicated international border restrictions.
So luckily, they’ve all come to us.
The Sesame Street Circus Spectacular has just opened under the (heated) big top at Majura Park, with shows running daily until August 2.
The new show was written and produced in Australia, with the original Sesame Street voices recorded in New York especially for the production.
Running for 90 minutes, it includes plenty of live circus action by international performers, including acrobats, hula hoopers, aerialists, and motorcyclists conquering the globe of steel.
They’re all joined by Sesame Street favourites Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Bert and Ernie, and Super Grover.
“This is a unique production in that it’s the first time anywhere in the world that Sesame Street has partnered with a circus. And it’s a full international circus program, with circus stars from literally the four corners of the globe,” says Simon Tait from the Sesame Street Circus Spectacular.
“And then we’ve got the Sesame Street characters, and with Sesame Street, there’s always that educational aspect to it. In this show, the Sesame Street characters have joined the circus, because everybody has their own individual and very unique set of talents. And they’re here trying to find out what they are good at. They’re all different, and they’re all good at different things. So they’re finding their niche in the circus.”
At intermission, everyone has the chance to meet Big Bird in the foyer, or for a more up-close and personal experience, the gold tickets will also get you a special meet-and-greet with Elmo.
The show is suitable for all ages—because let’s be honest, no matter how old we get, we all have a bit of a soft spot for Sesame Street—and it’s all performed under the heated big top at Majura Park, which is toasty warm inside.
While tickets are available at the big top, your best bet is to book online, and try to arrive 30 minutes before the show so you’re seated in time to catch a special early cameo by everyone’s favourite biscuit fiend, Cookie Monster.
