Pregnant Pause’s Meet the Village Afternoon Tea

A networking event for Canberra mums and mums-to-be brought to you by Pregnant Pause

Hear from a diverse panel of women about their experiences of life, pregnancy, motherhood, and who makes up their “village” in an event from Pregnant Pause–the campaign supporting Canberra mums-to-be to go alcohol-free.

We all know the age-old saying “it takes a village!”—but who makes up this village, and where can we find them?

Like so many mums in the know, “it takes a village” has long been Pregnant Pause’s mantra. That’s why Pregnant Pause has worked hard with our Community Heroes—local business and service providers—to build a village of support for Canberra women and mums-to-be to achieve alcohol-free pregnancies and feel supported in their parenting journey.

Whether you’re newly pregnant, or five-kids deep into to this parenting gig, we could all benefit from getting to know the people, organisations and businesses in our community who are ready and willing to lend a helping hand and support Canberra women to achieve alcohol-free pregnancies.

Join Pregnant Pause for an afternoon of chai tea and honesty. Get to know other mums, hear from a brilliant line-up of speakers from first-time parents to seasoned pros, and help them celebrate the wonderful people that make up their—and your—village.

Tickets are free but registration is essential via Eventbrite

Happening Friday 18 June from 3.45–5.30 pm at Griffith Hall, 53 Stuart Street, Griffith.

See Eventbrite to register for your free ticket.

Kiss Me, Kate

Do you love Shakespeare? Do you love hot jazz? Do you love to laugh?

Then you’ll love Queanbeyan Players’ production of the hilarious classic Kiss Me, Kate!

Kiss Me, Kate is the Broadway hit musical written by Bella and Samuel Spewack with music and lyrics by the brilliant Cole Porter. Packed with an incredibly talented local cast, and some of Canberra and Queanbeyan’s finest jazz musicians, this is one show you don’t want to miss!

Egotistical leading man, director, and producer Fred Graham is reunited with his ex-wife, Lilli Vanessi, when the two are forced to play opposite one another in a new production of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew.

This sets off a battle of the sexes both onstage and off, creating high entertainment for both cast and audience alike. Alongside their bickering liaison, the show’s supporting actress, Lois Lane, stands by her gambling boyfriend, Bill, as he attempts to evade the clutches of local gangsters. Throw in a number of cases of mistaken identity, the mob, and comedic routines and you get Kiss Me, Kate—a dazzling Broadway classic that earned the very first Tony award for Best Musical.

This is a classic “Golden Era” musical comedy but refreshed for and set in the 21st century starring some of Canberra and Queanbeyan’s finest stage talent, including Janelle McMenamin (Hello Dolly!, Next To Normal) as Lilli/Kate, Adam Best (Barnum) as Fred/Petruchio, Sammy Marceddo (We Will Rock You, 42nd Street) as Lois/Bianca and Nathanael Patterson (Les Misérables, Cosi Fan Tutte) as Bill/Lucentio.

Ticket prices: $30-$55

Happening 18-27 June at the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre (The Q).

Showtimes: Matinees Saturdays and Sundays 19, 20, 26, 27 June at 2 pm and Evening performances 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, and 26 June at 8 pm.

Exhibitions

CAMERON HAAS | A M P L I F Y

A M P L I F Y is an exhibition of recent work by Cameron Haas, whose outstanding talent as an abstract artist has now been recognised internationally.

Amplify is an extension of a more organic motif that he has been exploring for the last few exhibitions. This group of paintings extends the format to allow more opportunity for colour interactions within the composition. He achieves this by using mid-ground forms and colours that act as a type of ‘halo’ around the foreground formations, adding another level or amplification to the composition.

Amplify is on show until 20 June at The Nancy Sever Gallery.
