Australia’s answer to Fleabag is coming to Canberra Theatre Centre this June

“Pony is the sassy, oh-so-crass one-woman crusade that’s desperately searching for the light at the end of the (vaginal) tunnel.”

Questioning everything from motherhood to sex to pregnancy, Pony is the sassy, oh-so-crass one-woman crusade from award nominee Eloise Snape and Griffin Theatre Company that asks: when exactly do we as women switch from grinding to Ginuwine’s Pony and start singing nursery rhymes?

In Pony, Briallen Clarke plays Hazel, a delusional, reality TV-obsessed fantasist who swears like a sailor and has a fondness for greased-up male strippers. She’s also hugely, undeniably, ready-to-pop pregnant.

Hazel’s diary is full of ultrasounds, midwife appointments and baby showers…but really, she’d rather be anywhere else. What happens when you’re questioning whether you’re even cut out for motherhood, but that horse bolted eight months ago?

Perfect for fans of Fleabag and The Letdown, Pony is a laugh-out-loud one-woman show that writer Eloise Snape describes as “a bitingly honest and hilarious coming of (middle) age story…which explores bodies and sex…and how we navigate being on the precipice of motherhood when our brain is still on a dance floor grinding to the beats of Ginuwine’s classic anthem.”

Naturally, we think Pony is best viewed with friends—and new parents can even see it with their babes in arms at a matinee performance on Thursday 22 June for the perfect day out (noting that Pony is only suitable for babies and their parents, given the adult language content).

So what are you waiting for? Grab your mates (or babies!) and snap up your tickets now.

As Head of Programming at Canberra Theatre Centre, Dan Clarke puts it, “Canberra audiences deserve a fun, debaucherous night out and Pony provides exactly that! With its honest and hilarious content, this show is a must-see.”
