The Dataset: A cinematic and futuristic new dance work by Canberra’s own Australian Dance Party

This June, Canberra’s own contemporary dance company Australian Dance Party invites you to experience Dairy Road’s The Vault like never before.
Enter this dark industrial location and be submerged into ‘the data centre’ for the premiere of their brand-new work The Dataset. The Vault is transformed into a world where data is uploaded, stored and edited to shape our individuality, even to the extreme.
A trailblazer of Canberra’s creative scene, Australian Dance Party (ADP) pushes the envelope of performance experiences, with The Dataset continuing this legacy.
Integrating two bodies, light and sound, The Dataset explores the complex and topical relationship between humanity, data, and the systems we create.
Developed and performed by ADP Directors Alison Plevey and Sara Black in collaboration with composer Sia Ahmad and production designer Jordan Hodge, according to Sara, The Dataset “imagines a world where we physicalise the data that’s taken from us and in turn used to shape us and interrogate its purpose and power.”
For Alison, The Dataset is all about consequences.
“In creating The Dataset, we have explored the complex relationship between people and their information and contemplate the consequences of living in a society where data systems wield significant influence over us”.”
“What happens when the system rules us?” adds Sara. “What happens when the system is broken? ‘The Dataset’ highlights our humanity, the body as its own beautiful and complex computer, and a gaze into what we are risking by living with data and AI driven systems.
Tickets are now available for a strictly limited run of shows and to maximise your experience, a dinner and show package has been created in collaboration with Dairy Road’s Contentious Character. Orders for this unique one-night only experience on Saturday 29 June are required by Friday 28 June 12 pm via the booking page.
