This epic new music festival in an iconic building will have Millennials frothing

It’s a building you’ve probably never set foot in but have driven past 1.2 million times if you grew up in Canberra.
We’re talking about the former home of our media pals The Canberra Times, on the corner of Pirie and Newcastle Street in Fyshwick – a vast space that was built in 1964 to accommodate the bustling staff and printing press befitting Canberra’s very own masthead.
Since the newspaper relocated to the city in 2022, the lot has been silent. But that will soon change.
On Saturday 14 September, The Times Festival will take over what once was the large outdoor car park to host a huge array of homegrown names, from Sneaky Sound System to Bag Raiders, Havana Brown and KLP.
While the lineup was released earlier this week (as well as the option to pre-register for tickets), we don’t have much to go on as to the look and feel of the festival – only that there will be “unique stage designs” that will be an “Australian first”.
Speaking of the lineup, Millennials will be getting a big dose of nostalgia as songs like Pictures (Sneaky Sound System), From the Music (The Potbelleez), Sunlight (Bag Raiders), Horny (Mousse T), We Run The Night (Tonite Only), Hands Up (Sunset Bros) and a whole lot of others songs that’ll make you feel like you’re on the dancefloor in Meche circa 2012. If only life were still that simple, sigh.
