We don’t mean to scare you, but Christmas is now a mere 10 days away. …
Mother’s Day means different things to us all.
But if for you, Mother’s Day means delicious barbeque, great coffee, prosecco, Goodberry’s and viral sensation DJ Sue, you’re in for a treat at Farrer’s Fox and Bow café.
For those unfamiliar with the name, DJ Sue from Canberra’s Runaround DJs recently shot to international fame after a video of her dropping bangers out the front of Dickson Library went viral on Twitter.
The 63-year-old grandmother (real name Sue Freeman) has since appeared on ABC Radio, The Today Show and Studio 10—and will be slinging her signature fresh beats at Fox and Bow on Sunday from 11 am.
For Owner Alex Piris, there was no one else he wanted on the decks for Mother’s Day.
“I woke up one day last week and said to my wife, ‘I’m gonna organise a DJ for Mother’s Day’,” says Alex. “To which she responded, ‘Don’t be a ****** idiot’. Anyway, when I suggested DJ Sue, she was like, ‘Actually, that’d be kinda cool—Mother’s Day, a grandma, lots of locals…'”
“We realised we needed to turn it into a bit of a Mother’s Day parteeey if we were going to pull a crowd. Who better than DJ Khaled—I mean DJ Sue—to do that?”
A veritable Mother’s Day festival will descend on Fox and Bow this Sunday 9 May, with Alex excited to pack the day with cool offerings from talented locals.
“Kombi Keg will be pouring Prosecco and beers for Mum. They’ve also got Goodberry’s for the kids, so that’ll save a trip to Erindale later,” he says.

There will also be a stall from social enterprise GG’s Flowers so you can grab a bunch for mum, as well as a performance from Finley Geach, a finalist in this year’s Byron Bay Buskers Festival.
“An amazing musician and she’s only 17!” says Alex.
As well as Fox and Bow serving up their signature brunch and lunch dishes with a Spanish twist, Alex will also be cooking up some LP’s Quality Meats sausages over charcoal and “turning them into yummy hot dogs with jalapeños and grated Manchego. Seriously, they’re frickin delicious! We’ll also do a bit of salmon and Chorizo over the grill too.”
There will also be a coffee cart set up outdoors to help with super-quick coffee orders.
While Fox and Bow don’t do bookings (no, not even on Mother’s Day), the aforementioned extra seating and coffee cart should help with getting your fed and caffeinated quickly.
And if you do have to wait for a table, Alex says there will be plenty to keep you entertained.
“What’s the rush anyway?” he adds. “Chill with your mum already. She gave birth to you!”
