FreshOut and ready to celebrate: FreshOut Fair Day Canberra comes to Enlighten

FreshOut – Fair Day Canberra will be held as a part of the Canberra Enlighten Festival on Saturday 11 March 2023 at Glebe Park.

Fair Day is a well-loved event that has been bringing the community together to celebrate Pride and build community cohesion for over 20 years. What started as a small gathering to raise awareness about sexual health back in 1996 has evolved and grown into the flagship event of the SpringOUT Pride Festival.

Fair Day, held on Saturday 11 March, is a one-day outdoor event filled with entertainment from Canberra’s finest performing artists, a village of market stalls representing community organisations and local businesses, and a showcase of Canberra’s finest food and wines produced within the region.

The event continues to evolve in response to the diverse needs of our communities. For example, in 2019 we added a family disco and a late-night after-party.

Over the years, Fair Day has become an embedded celebration of Canberra’s diversity that is core to our city’s identity. It brings extensive benefits not only to LGBTIQA+ Canberrans, but to the broader community in the ACT and surrounding regions. Fair Day attracts over 2,000 people who enjoy the event and celebrate pride.

This year the event has had a brand refresh and will be known as FreshOut. This pays homage to moving forward in a brave new world and coming out to celebrate. We have changed the date by invitation from ACT Government to be part of Canberra Enlighten Festival. Joining the Canberra Enlighten Festival is a wonderful opportunity to involve Canberra’s dynamic LGBTIQA+ communities in this vibrant festival. This provides many exciting possibilities to build event capacity and create a substantially superior event for our communities.

Nestled neatly among Pride events in Melbourne (Midsumma), Sydney (World Pride and Mardi Gras) and regional areas such as Daylesford and the Sapphire Coast, FreshOut gains leverage from surrounding events and attracts interest from the ACT and interstate.

FreshOut is a day for our communities to celebrate our strength and pride with our loved ones, friends, and biological and chosen families.

The opportunity to celebrate FreshOut as a part of an already exuberant time of the year in Canberra, Enlighten Festival, is a wonderful turn of events and will add to the air of celebration with Pride festivities around the country.
