From a side-show alley to reptile encounters, here’s why the whole family will love the CGGS Fete

The iconic Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) Fete will celebrate its incredible 97^th year on Saturday 26 October 2024.

Spread over three acres of the School’s Senior campus, the CGGS Fete is one of the biggest and most well-known annual school fetes in Canberra – and you’re invited to the party!

“Each year we warmly welcome over 3000 people through the gates for what is a genuine celebration of togetherness and fun,” says Patty Chier, President of the School’s Parents & Friends Association.

“Beyond being a legacy fundraiser and a positive and entertaining experience, our Fete connects the wider Canberra region to our 100-year-old spirit and fosters current and new relationships with the local community.”

Positioned in a picturesque corner of Deakin, the grounds of CGGS provide a perfect historic backdrop for all the nostalgia a spring fete brings. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Red Hill (yet only minutes from the centre of Canberra), the event heralds the blossoming spring weather and is a fantastic outdoor weekend adventure for this time of year.

Generations of Canberrans have fond memories of the CGGS Fete and return year-on-year to wander the campus, explore the stalls and see how the hallmark event has evolved across almost a century.

“Our fete really is a fabulous day out for the whole family—there is nothing quite like it! We will have a side-show alley for the young and young at heart, reptile encounters, rock climbing, and over 40 stalls from local vendors and producers selling high-quality pre-loved books, cakes, sweet treats, refreshments, and arts and crafts, to name a few,” says Terrie Jones, CGGS Principal.

“A real feature is the ensembles of our Music Academy, who will provide live entertainment throughout the day so you can experience firsthand some of the finest compositions by our talented musicians, for free.”

Amongst the fun and excitement, interested families will also have an opportunity to discover the school’s 100-year legacy of excellence, connection and opportunity. Tours of the Senior School campus will commence at 11 am and 1 pm on the day, leaving from a garden party-inspired space on the lawns of the historic Boarding House.
