It’s school holidays and we have rounded up 10 cool ways to keep the kids…
You may remember how excited we were when Canberra Centre’s Lifestyle Precinct graced us with its presence, one year ago.
The space promised us brands like Top 3 by Design, The Cool Hunter, Pepe’s Paperie, Le Creuset, Robinson’s Bookshop and more, and a year on we’re still welcoming lust-worthy brands like MUJI as the precinct continues to grow.
This weekend, Canberra Centre will celebrate the first birthday of this luxe addition with One Fine Weekend of special offers, live entertainment, freebies and a not-to-be-missed cooking masterclass hosted by none other than Sammy and Bella Jakubiak.
The Polish-Australian sisters have been blazing a nation-wide path since flooring the judges in 2011’s My Kitchen Rules. Since then, they’ve opened multiple restaurants, appeared in international editions My Kitchen Rules and are currently hosting their very own show, Kitchen Rescue, on Channel 10. For their masterclass this Saturday, Sammy and Bella will show you how to keep things low key and local this festive season.
“We want to take the fear out of cooking a dinner party at home, with no-fail recipes that will wow the guests,” explains Bella. “Of course, we are using Aussie natives – making a lemon myrtle cured salmon.”
The sisters will be showing attendees how to host the perfect no-fuss get together, with recipes, styling tips and more.
“One of the hardest things about throwing a dinner party is preparing food last minute, so we’ve eliminated that. You don’t even need to toss the salad with dressing! Zero last minute prep lets you spend time setting the mood with a stunning table setting, mood lighting, and some relaxing music, and even some time to decant the wine. Oh, and get yourself looking and feeling fabulous!”
It’s been a huge year for the sisters, with the opening of Bella’s eponymous restaurant, Bella’s at Tallagandra Hill, in Gundaroo.
“The local community is just amazing and so supportive,” she says. “Some people thought I was nuts opening a restaurant in the countryside, but the locals from Murrumbateman and Gundaroo are all regulars – they often bring me produce from their gardens and I pop it on the specials board.”
“We are really looking forward to summer, and we have opened up our courtyard for a more casual menu where you can grab a cheese plate, burger, pasta, and a great list of snacks. Kids love it too – we have a playground and they really enjoy my handmade pasta, made with love of course. In essence, we’re there to make people happy, and create a space where friends and community can meet.”
This is in addition to the next season of Kitchen Rescue, which the sisters will begin filming shortly.
“Season one was a huge success and they invited us back, which is a big compliment,” explains Bella. “We are very proud of the show because we’re not just the hosts – we came up with the concept and are producers too. The experience has really given us an appreciation for all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. It’s one of the most challenging and best things I’ve ever done!”
In addition to Sammy and Bella’s masterclass, the first 50 visitors to Canberra Centre’s Lifestyle Precinct on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 November respectively will receive a box of Haigh’s Chocolates. Doors open from 9 am on Saturday and 10 am on Sunday, so run, don’t walk.
Want more? How does browsing with a glass of bubbly in-hand sound? A pop-up champagne bar will make sure your glass is topped up as you enjoy the sounds of a live acoustic harpist and shop a weekend full of one-time-only offers across the entire precinct.
