Get your skates on, an ice rink is coming to Glebe Park

It’s all part of your favourite seasonal celebration of winter in the city.

Here to dial up the winter charm, the City Renewal Authority’s Winter in the City: Fire and Ice festival will take over the City Centre.

Among the highlights?

For the first time, the ever-popular ice rink will be staged in Glebe Park alongside a separate snow-play activity, so you can even build a snowman. At night, Garema Place will be heating up with nightly displays of fire breathing, twirling and dancing from some of the country’s best fire performers. And that’s just the beginning.

Along with deals, events, experiences, and other activities, the key entertainment activities will be running from Saturday 6 until Friday 21 July (school holidays), you’ll want to grab your mittens because it’s the perfect winter school holiday activity or date night inspiration.

“Winter in the City: Fire and Ice shows that there is a lot of to love about the City Centre during the colder months,” says Minister for Government Services and Regulatory Reform, Tara Cheyne.

“The event not only provides unique and exciting experiences for Canberrans and visitors, but also plays a crucial role in supporting our city’s night-time economy.

“By attracting people to the City Centre during the evenings, we’re encouraging them to explore and enjoy Canberra’s diverse offerings of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops – all conveniently located in one place.”

City Centre and Braddon businesses are now invited to sign up to Winter in the City: Fire and Ice and feature their products through a digital What’s on Guide (which will launch on Monday 10 June).
